Signalprick/JWRitchie Knives Slipjoint Recovers, Mods and WIPS

Last customer knife for a bit. After this are 4 of my own then....... Anyway, a #44 gunstock that I'm deleting the pen blade and recovering in some very old GE Textolite, black paper I believe but there may be a hit of dark green in the right light. At any rate some of the hardest and highest quality paper I've worked with to date.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Looking good Jason! Any hints regarding your personal projects?

GEC 44 all finished up! I deleted the pen blade and recovered using a really old, beautiful satin black paper Textolite micarta. Pinned badge shield. Bolsters are finished to 800 grit covers to 1500 grit and buffed. I'm very happy with this one! Thanks foe looking!

I like what you did there, now the knifes shape can be appreciated in hand for what it is. I've been tempted so many times to have my 2012 forum knife get the wharncliffe blade removed, and with the leftover liner and spring and blade, have a custom build done for the wharnie...hmmm, where could I go to find an artist to accomplish this deed? I bet it would be a fun project...

I'm completely reworking a Case CV Swayback. It's getting a new larger pivot bushing ala Tony Bose style. Mill relieved .040 thick 410SS liners. Set-up to be flush in all 3 positions. Gonna recover it in a vintage linen micarta shadow pattern and I think I'm going to roll with a corset shield on this one. It'll have all 410SS pins also. Thanks for looking!

I just finished up the Case Swayback Gent rebuild. I completely reworked this knife and made custom 410SS mill relieved liners. Added a custom 3/16" aluminum bronze pivot bushing. All hardware is 410SS and the covers are vintage natural linen micarta. The blade got a satin handrubbed finish. This one is more or less a totally custom Case Swayback. I'm real proud of this one. It really turned out fantastic! Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

Nice work. That came out awesome!

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the process for increasing the diameter of the pivot pin hole to accommodate the bushing? It seems like it would be difficult to drill out the hole in a blade that’s already been heat treated.

These already have a bushing although its pretty small and mostly useless really. I redrilled the hole but had to use a carbide drill, which wasn't cheap and not the safest to use but was no issue with my mini mill. The key here is high speed rpm and accuracy. My mill offers both to get the job done right.

Very nice work. :)
Personally, I don't understand the blade deletes ... I mean does 0.125 inch/3.175mm thinner really make that much difference when carrying?
I'm guessing the weight difference is negligible as well ... oh well, not my elephant, not my circus. :)
On the other hand, since you did (at least one) blade delete on a GEC 85, I know who to contact if a backspring on my 85 ever breaks. :D

I would normally not consider buying a Case but this, or one of similar quality, would certainly change my mind.

This one was not a jack but a gent. No delete here. Although I won't complain about anybody who wants a delete. I'm not expensive for that procedure and its helped me buy a lot of tools. To each their own.

That surprises me that these have a bushing. Maybe all the case Tony Bose design knives have them?

Most do, yes but they really aren't a functioning bushing to be honest. The more expensive yearly collabs do them right but the less expensive ones it really adds no functional improvement over not having one.

I'll be doing a tribal lock next and I'll post up pics of the knife disassembled. Of course it's going to get the same upgrades as this Swayback. ;)

Looking forward to seeing that one! Have you done any lock backs yet?
