Signalprick/JWRitchie Knives Slipjoint Recovers, Mods and WIPS

Got the 2nd or 3 43's all finished up and started on the 3rd. This one will be a lightweight (linerless) covered in old railroad rectifier natural linen with black g10 liner, stainless birds eye pivot and green canvas shadow shield. This is my first time using a g10 liner or doing a shadow shield. So far it has turned out super clean.

I also spent time yesterday refining how I'll be doing the rosettes for birds eye pivots. Previously I would use a drill bit that I ground the tip flat and use a depth collar. Chuck it up in my drill press and the cut the pocket. This gave me decent results but drill presses generally aren't as accurate as you'd like. Potential for a little runout on the bit. I sure the heck can't afford or even have the space for a mill.

So my idea was to basically approach them the same as I do shields. Simply drill a hole for the size rosette you want to use in a template. Mount the template onto your cover material and into your shield jig. Then using my dremel with router attachment get my desired depth and wallah!! A couple seconds later I have a perfectly sized pocket with about as perfectly flat bottom hole as you can possible get. Now its very easy, consistant and much more precise thus resulting in a cleaner overall product.

Got the chamfer done on the shield side so now the hard side is all complete. Now time to knock out the pile side and slap this bad boy together!

GEC #43 all finished up. I am super proud of this build. Super lightweight, recovered in old natural linen with black g10 liners. Stainless pivot and pins with a green canvas shadow badge shield.

Received the lambsfoot in the mail this morning. Thanks again Jason! I really like what you did with it!

I would like to add that that particular knife may be the last time I will be working with the G.L. Hansen material. I'm not saying definitely and I'll consider requests on a case by case basis but for a variety of reasons I'd prefer not to work with it in the future. It is without a doubt very good looking and unique stuff and I have no qualms at all with the company. It's simply a preference thing for me personally.
