Silver Needle's GSO 5's

Hey all of you lucky email notificationers....can you please share your order dates? I ordered my GSO-5 2nd on May 8th...trying to gauge how long it will be until I get my "shipped" email - thanks guys.

I ordered on the 29th within about 15 mins of them going live.

Ha ha, thanks Silver Needle. I already have a 4.1 and 5.1 but I think the 5 will hit that sweet spot I'm looking for. The Gso 12 is going to be epic.

April 29th right as they popped up. I'm not sure if they're doing first come first serve though. It may be by color choices.

We are doing our best to go by "first come, first serve" but it isn't an exact science. For example: I believe your order was among the first handful placed, but didn't make the first shipment because Guy just happened to sharpen a couple non-ferro notched stacks before getting to ferro notched blades.

With that said, we are waiting on a few more handles so some orders are being skipped until those all come in.

Oh I just wasn't sure about the other guy's orders. I got my shipping email yesterday and it looks like they'll be here tomorrow!

Thanks for responding guys, and Ellie. My scales are natural micarta on this one...one of my favorite handle colors/types, but this 5 is the only GSO that I ordered with them as I'm trying to differentiate them all a bit. So, it looks like it's gonna be a while still if I ordered on May 8...I'm fine with it, it's my wife who's getting pissed. Because the GSOs take months to get to me, I'm forced to make other knife purchases to satiate myself in the meantime...I don't know why she gets so mad, this is clearly out of the hands of both myself and Survive Knives.

hahahahaha I just get the "ANOTHER knife?" when they come in, and i calmly explain "it's ok I paid months ago and you didn't even notice!!"

Well these two beasts just showed up! Mine is the tan canvas and the red linen is my friend Josh's.

I can't wait to get back home and start using this monster!!

I had to put the camo scales on it to see the difference.

I'm liking them both a lot!

Whoa! Looking good! Congratulation!

I love the colors. Dang the red linen looks awesome in sunlight.

What's the story behind the extra scales?

Is that your edc 4.1? Why no logos?!

Thanks bud!
I ordered an extra set just incase. I'd hate to mess one up and not be able to replace it easily considering they might not be made ever again.
Yeah it's my regular 4.1 factory 2nd that came with really light logos. The actual logo is still perfectly legible so I'm pretty happy about it. I kinda like that it's a bit different from the others.

I'm the same way, my GSO 5 is my favorite fixed blade and because of that I have two spare sets of scales. Figured I'd break the scales before I broke the knife. HA! The new logos look great...

Exactly! It would take a hell of a lot to mess up the steel on these but I've accidentally taken a chunk out of a set of Esee scales a long time ago by batoning to close to the handle.
It's crazy how crisp the logos are. Silver Needle wasn't joking about being able to count the stars on the flag!

You can see faded logos in a couple of the pics, have to look close... one of the bad etch-jobs?

I agree, those look great

There were some of those old spec GSO-4.1 blades that were engraved before QC. Then QC happened and they got deemed unworthy, then went through some refinishing. Being tumbled again made some of the engraving lighter. But not light enough that we could re-engrave them without it being a big mess of logos.

Those look great Standard, except I was expecting the sheaths to go with the opposite knife, ha! Maybe it's because my 3.5 is natural brown in an FDE sheath so I'm biased. :) Either way, congrats to you and your friend, you'll love those 5's.

Yeah the deal with the logos never bothered me. Anyone who knows their Survive! history will instantly be able to place the blade. Maybe some day they'll be collectors items. My 3.5 will be a very well-used collectors item, though, if that happens :D

Dang, I feel very silly now. You 2 are so smart. A set of natural handles are now on the top of my list!!

If they switched sheaths, Standard's BFF would have a twin to my incoming factory second. I kind of have that color combination trade marked and I'm sure there is nobody else in the world who would have ordered it before me :p

It's almost the same shade as the blade but it's still pretty easy to read. I honestly really like it on this knife because it's nice and clean with the silver and black hardware. Plus the logo doesn't make this thing cut any better!
I tried to get decent photos but it's hard to focus in.

I almost asked my friend if he wanted to switch but he was way to excited at the moment! Almost all of his Survive!s are the red and FDE colors anyhow.
You're 100% right that it would be really hard to mistake these for other blades. The secondary market is crazy already so I wouldn't doubt it.
