Crap, I just got my Brute out of the knife container I keep it in, and it has rust all over it. Damn.

Photos. Taking it to the cabin with me. Shouldn't be anything a little batonning won't take care of. Really surprised by it. Have other stripped blades, never had this problem:

Pics? I would check every knife, you may have some source of moisture, no sense in harming everything.

I hope it comes off! Good luck!:(

Posted before your post. None of the other knives in the container has any rust on them.

A little flitz and some elbow grease and it will be right as rain warrior.

Just got the Hunt mini hatchet back with its new sheath! Really like the safety latch design on it. You know its not coming off unless you want it off! Thanks again JD!!

Also got an edge scribe in from a member here on the forums. Not really sure how it works though LMAO

double awesome. That's really cool.

Thanks Daizee!

I think i figured out the scribe, i was over thinking it. I just adjusted it and got it to where it looked like it was in the dead center. Darkened the edge with a marker and then scribed it, flipped the blank over and did the same thing again. Both lines are touching, which means they are in the center as its the same distance from the edge.

Cool stuff! Easier than using the drill bit :D

That's weird, Warrior. It should come off just fine though. Also, daummm! That edge looks sharp. Did you do it yourself or was it already on there when you got it?

Thanks Daizee!

The way I use a scribe like that is to set the lines so they are about 0.015" apart. then I grind to those guides, leaving a non-sharp 'edge', which becomes the real edge after heat-treat, handles, and sheath.

I read about doing it that way. Making "railroad tracks". I think that would indeed be better because you will keep it even on both sides without going too thin. If you do it with 1 center line you will have to stop before you hit the exact center line and may not stop in the same exact spot on both sides.

What type of scribe do you use most the time? Height gauge?

We put her in a box at night so we don't get licked into waking up. And to protect the couch from any middle of the night chewing she might feel compelled to do. Hopefully now that she's 1, the chewing will begin to calm down.

Our oldest is the early riser. Crazy thing is that at 15, he will still put himself to bed most nights without a fight! I'm 44 and still complain about having to go to bed.
My oldest (13) is up early, too, and generally doesn't complain about going to bed. OTOH, I'm like you....I always have more stuff to do, and since most of my day is filled up with work and other shtuff, that's the only "me" time I get. If I went to bed at the same timenas my kids, I'd do nothing but work and sleep. I can't abide that. As the dear departed Warren Zevon said: "I'll sleep when I'm dead".
I'm excited!!
Look what just landed on my doorstep!
Brute-tastic!!

That is pretty awesome, Jonny. I gotta use mine more. Maybe tonight. ...

we've got Argus dipped into the cone of an active underwater volcano RIGHT NOW.
lots of gas seeps coming up. No lava, thankfully - for our safety! :-)

My keychain ROCKS now.

Got my keys, exotac nanostriker XL, tritium lantern, and Hunt hatchet.

Still fits in my pocket too :D

cool keychain!

And as it seems you are getting serious with it, go ahead and order some 1084and take advantage of all the awesome advice given here. My first 3-4 blades were made out of "mystery steel", scraps found here and there, drawfiling, lots of sanding, then a cheap HF belt sander. By that time I had already ordered some 1084 and messing with it. My first blade out of 1084 with my HT was destroyed while batonning, a huge quarter-sized chunk came off the edge when I tried to dislodge it from the stump I batton on. But the 2nd blade came out a bit nicer, although I am still afraid to batton with it :D

It has taken me some time to accept that if I want to get something out of this hobby (at least to pay for more steel and/or buying other knives), sending out for HT is a pretty good deal. I still order 1084 and do garage HT, but those I keep for myself or given as gifts.

Dubz the Brute was a different steel if memory serves. Might explain the rampant rust.

Okay, I've pinky sworn that I'm doing a mini-triathlon next year. Anybody done one? trade, I need to pick your daughter's brain.
