Some I made.

billy blade & alpha156 - The center knife in the top photo to the right of the Bravo Necker is a Blackjack 155 (154cm & brown micarta).

SCWillson - that one was made by Alan Davis of Texas who is very active in the knivemakers forum here and a great guy to work with. I believe it is made from 52100 and ironwood but I would have to check my records to be certain. I bought that particular one from another member here.

I thought this thread was awesome, I love to make small, usually around 3 in bladed knives. My EDC is a 3.5 in blade that I made.

I feel the same way. As I get older, my preference is to edc small fixed blades under 3". Here are a few of my favorites from knifemakers on this forum. Sorry bout the pic, all I have with me is my phone.

Cynic, interesting lil' knife you got there. However, my having rather large Hands, eyes ga-ta have slabs/handles.

Actually it does have handles, I just took them off as I use it in the kitchen a lot, and find it easier to clean chicken/duck/fish gunk off of it without scales on it. Scales are offered in brown and black.

Not shown yet in the thread, but here is the Fällkniven SK3 Juni.

With 2,8" blade and 3" handle, the total lenght of the Juni is just under 6".
Weight is 1,8 oz and it has the laminated 3G powdersteel.

The handle is oiled Masur Birch Burl.

A group shot for size reference:

From top to bottom:
BR Huntsman
FK TK3 folder
FK SK3 Juni
BR PSK
FK U4

The sheath is made of thick leather with a beltloop, but can be carried in a pocket as it is.

The other two are custom FK WM1's

Filleting a fish is also possible with the Juni.

I'd been meaning to get one of the Fällkniven SK3 Juni fixed blade knives but forgot. The 2.8" blade of 3G powder steel (62 HRC) were the main reason. As much as I like my Fällkniven F1 it's bigger with a 3.8" blade of laminated VG-10 so this will be a big step up both in the blade steel and downsizing the blade.

Yes and the Juni is a HighQ alternative, that is a joy to use!

Hi all,

Mikael, that is a sweeeet lil' knife! I only wish it were a 1/2" longer in the handle to fit my large Paws. As I mentioned, I have a vintage Scandi (small) fixed blade knife with Bone handle on it's way back to me from sharpening. I can't wait to get it back even though it's a "three finger" knife in my hand. It's a "BR & Co." Bone handle knife. I'm a bit confused about the history of this company. I recall someone from your neck of the Woods said it is a "Brusletto Geilo" knife ? Oooh well, whoever made this knife, I LIKE it a lot ! Torm, I dig the Busse! Nice!

629 and Mry, very nice knives! Gad....those are pretty neat knives but a bit larger than small IMHO. That being said, I VERY much like this size knife and I find that knives ranging in blade size 4" to 5" inch are perhaps THE most difficult size knife for me to choose. I think the 4" to 5" blade is now what many/most now considered to be the so called BUSHCRAFT/SURVIVAL/WOODSCRAFT/HUNTING/CAMPING type knife and there is just soooooo many to chose from in this size!

Cool thread, I just think it is cool the workmanship that can go into a smaller package can be so nice and yet these are made to work. Just best of both worlds.

There's also the Fällkniven SK1 Jarl with a 3.8" blade of 3G powder steel (62 HRC) and a 4.5" handle.

Ram,

YIKES! Nice knife but.....just a lil' bit too rich for a poor guy like me.

Did you look at the similarly sized Fällkniven F1 with VG-10 laminate and Zytel sheath? It's priced right and both the handle and sheath work great in extreme cold!

Personally I have also started to get a taste for the small fixed blade. The Bark River city knife has turned into a kind of grail knife.

As a workhorse alternative, I have taken a look at Cold Steel Pendleton mini. The price is really right and the quality looks decent. Any opinions of the CS? I even had an idea to take the rubber handle off and make an oak handle.

A cheaper alternative would be Böker Beauty Steel:
