Smoke Jumper

Haha, I can see why you would be startled, I scare myself sometimes! :D

I just got the paid membership and wasn’t sure how big the images are when inserting directly from my phone. Maybe I should try the small image size next time.

I just wish Buck could be a little more consistent with the lockup on their lock-backs. Sometimes tight as a bank vault, but more often than not you either get up and down, side to side play, or both.

An adjustable pivot would help a lot, but a little more attention to detail on the tolerances would certainly be beneficial. Not trying to be negative, I like Bucks a lot and understand they are built to a price point, but I would gladly pay $10-$15 more for one of these, or 110, or 112 with improved tolerances or at least adjustable pivots.

Lastly, I will admit this is mostly nit picking, as the blade play does not really effect the utility or safety of the knives. It just bugs me is all. If I had never bought knives from other companies with tighter tolerances and bank vault lock up I would likely never even have noticed, but since I have, I have a hard time ignoring it.

Sorry for the mini rant, but I so wished the LT to be a little better as about every other review mentions the play and I wanted one of these bad.
jstrange, I agree with you, wish they could use some technology to tighten up their tolerances too! That said, I suggest you go ahead get one of these with the CPM 154 and just use the heck out of it. Yes mine has some play, but it really isn’t bad and it’s my favorite of my lite weight 110s.

Thanks! I would love to see yours!
I'm too lazy to get a better pic.So this will have to suffice.

I played with two of the Smoke Jumpers at the gun show. Resale price was $55. If either had any "play", it wasn't worth worrying about. I would have bought it, but with a 6/2018 UTX-70 going for $190 with M390 steel, my money went elsewhere. With the SK price being $38 for 154CM steel, I think yall need to give Buck/SKBlades some slack on color, fit, finish, pinned construction, etc. and stop picking da nits :) The original Bucklites were about $30 at Wally World back in the early 90s. If you get a little play, put the knife on the anvil of a vise and whack the pivot pin with a hammer. That works sometimes.

I agree with you, it is being picky. These are an outstanding deal and I really appreciate what SK does (have a Maverick), I meant no disrespect. Just saying I would gladly pay more if Buck would tighten them up. I know SK has no control over that.

Dang SS, nice!!
Sometimes I forget my manners.I should have taken the time to identify those Bucks.

The top two are Aluminum frame models. The one on the left is paperstone and the one on the right is Macassar Ebony. The next two below are Ecolite models made with paperstone and the two below those are the current production models, the SmokeJumper and the drop point. The last one is the long gone titanium model #560.

That ebony has beautiful grain and color!

Which gun show were you at that had our smoke jumpers? Are you sure it was the same knife. No one should have that an any type of retails since it's exclusive to us. Hmm..o_O

I read it as someone who bought from you and was flipping it at their table at the show, I assume.......maybe I read it wrong?

Yes it absolutely is a thing.
Please tell me more. I have a lil’ Jack and the 110 version and I wouldn’t consider them ”full” flat ground. I’m out of town so can’t look at them, but I didn’t remember them being ground all the way to the back of the blade, more of a saber grind. So a “full” flat grind is an option? I would like that!

The 2018 forum knife is Buck with FFG blades, so I know they can do it! I have my lil Jack in my room with me, and you are correct that it is not a full flat grind but rather just flat ground for the lower portion of the blade.
A Drop point version of both the 110 and the 112 in the lt frame would be amazing, and even more so with FFG blades!
