Smoke Jumper

Which gun show were you at that had our smoke jumpers? Are you sure it was the same knife. No one should have that an any type of retails since it's exclusive to us. Hmm..o_O

IIIRC it was a plastic handled Buck 110 with 154 steel. I knew it was a dealer exclusive, and asked him about them. The dealer was up front and told me it was a dealer exclusive he bought 4 or 5 and kept 1 and was reselling the rest. So the Smoke Jumper he got for himself was essentially free given his price of $55. He loved the Bucklite and saw this knife as a great combo. He had a lot of different Bucks for sale, more than anyone else, old and new stock plus some other brands. Some were collector Bucks with high prices yet realistic. He had some new Benchmades but not enough stock to be a dealer.

I wouldn't really call it "retail".

I'm the wrong person to beg to. Buck said they aren't doing anymore S90V in the foreseeable future on the 110s. I think I broke their will with the last ones I did. :D:D

It was worth a shot. Lol
I appreciate all your efforts!

How about some "old school' steels such as ATS-34,a favorite of Bob Loveless.

If the stories I've read are true, 154CM is the old school predecessor to ATS-34. Loveless liked the 154CM and switched to ATS-34 (a Hitachi copy of 154CM) because the quality of the 154CM he was getting was not consistent. A lot of makers switched as well. When Crucible upped their game with 154CM, most US knife producers switched back to 154CM.

old school?........bg42 then. isn't it back in production again?

That comports with my memory as well.

I would still like to see some Buck knives produced with ATS-34 as I have several Buck knives with 154-CM and none with ATS-34.

I finally got a chance to carry the Smoke Jumper to work today, and I discovered that CPM-154 will readily rust when exposed to salt water. I was kind of surprised how quickly it showed up, since it was rust free this morning. Perhaps the stone washing is to blame? Regardless, it cleaned up with a little Flitz, and looks perfectly fine now. Still sharp as the dickens too.

I thought CPM-154 is a stain-less steel?

I hope you will keep carrying it and let us know if it does it again please, Ive carried mine since the day I got it (one of the early ones) and exposed it to a lot of sweat and rain and food and the worst I’ve gotten is a slight tarnish so far.

My Smoke Jumper has been with me fishing on my boat in brackish water, I’ve cut fishing line at water level, and fished on the beach and on the pier in the Atlantic - no sign of rust yet. Wonder what is up with your blade? OH
