I generally like Bourdain, although sometimes I think he's a pretentious jerk. I reckon that depends a lot on the people he's with at any given time. He's done shows in "heartland" and "ghetto" settings where he was super down-to-earth, and shows in hoity-toity trendy-ass big-city spots where it costs $300 for a highly-decorated plate of basically nothing, and he sucked up so much it made me want to puke.
Regardless, I'm torn between wanting a "celeb chef" like him to come to East TN to show-off how truly awesome the food is here... and hoping they never do, so we don't get further over-run by touristy dicks who make traffic worse, lines longer and drive prices up. On the other hand, tourists spend gobs of money and love local artisinal stuff, and I sell handmade knives made right here, so there's that. On the
other other hand, we already have the coolest celebrity chef of them all in our backyard, so... *shrug*
It's quite a conundrum...
