Nope. It was just a good price for new Higher carbon spikes for Vik to forge with.Anything special about Deep East Texas spikes?
In the RR spike world High Carbon doesn’t mean what it does in the knife world. They just have a higher carbon content which makes them stronger but won’t necessarily have the ability to be hardened.
Pretty dang coolI have some Carnegie-era spikes that sure don't harden. I hope to turn a couple more of them into other garden tools, since they were dug out of a garden in the first place. How do I know they are Carnegie-era? They were dug out of buried ties, holding down track mounting plates with "Carnegie" cast into them. Now I suppose the spikes could have been replaced randomly as necessary, but it all the bits look like they aged together.
Are you in Nac or did you find them online and send them to him?Nope. It was just a good price for new Higher carbon spikes for Vik to forge with.

Being a bum, probably. Thought about antiquing today. We went to a new place yesterday. Sucked, pretty much. 22°, high of 38° today.Woke up this morning with the temps hovering at -21º C (-6º F). Looks like we are stuck with these conditions for the whole week. Currently enjoying coffee and catching up on the news. What's everyone else doing today?
Putting in outdoor outlets on both sides of my front porch. That means punching thru the foundation and pulling a dedicated circuit to the panel. I’m debating with myself. Two 20 amp gfi outlets or just wire everything to a 20 amp gfi breaker. By the time I drill the foundation I should have an answer for myself.Woke up this morning with the temps hovering at -21º C (-6º F). Looks like we are stuck with these conditions for the whole week. you're either punching 2 holes in the foundation or you're running metal conduit for the second outlet.Putting in outdoor outlets on both sides of my front porch.
