Howdy folks. Didn't want to make a new thread just for this, so I was just wondering if anyone with a BK62 might be able to do me a favor and measure the inside diameter of the bolt holes in the tang? I'm looking at picking one up and doing a custom handle, and would like to try to match the shank size to the existing holes as close as I can.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

We are right on the edge of this storm I'm seeing reports of sleet up to 6 inches of snow . 50-60 miles north could get 20+ inches

I measure 0.195", so a smidge over 3/16". Just shy of 13/64". They're designed for bolts (some play), not pins.
I've made some kephart scales. If you haven't done them before, I just feel you should be warned that they're rather finicky because they're so thin, and getting the front bump area right is no mean feat. Big fan of the factory micarta here. The stock scales are great too.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate you taking the time. I appreciate the warning. I've done more than a few handles, but never a Kephart specifically. I don't mind taking my time and doing them by hand if necessary. It's just a side project I'm thinking about doing for fun so I could afford to take my time with it. Unfortunately the factory micarta isn't available anywhere in Canada at the moment, and to get them shipped from one of the few stores which have them in the US is prohibitively expensive. Tomar's would be $106 CAD total, plus import fees. I can pick up a 12" x 6" x 3/8" block of micarta, epoxy and corby bolts for just over half that. Plus I like the idea of it being sealed under the scales as I live in a very wet environment.

My go to knife making supply store has 0.213" brass and 0.186" stainless shank diameter corby bolts in stock, so I could either bore the holes out for the 0.213" or go with the slightly undersized corby's and just make sure the small gap between the shank and tang is filled with epoxy. Either which way, thank you again for your help!

Oooh yeah, definitely project worthy given all that.
Drilling out holes in a hardened tang can be dangerous, especially with an already-sharp knife. We want knife pix, not ER pix!
Good luck!

I wish we would get snow too!

Come and take it.
No, really, please.

Internet lasted for just a few minutes, then we lost it. Looks like no computer or tv for a few days. Phone city...

I shoveled the drifts off the back deck while logging on this morning. Got another inch after that.
Lots of wind and drifting today.
Otoh, we're up to 17f actual already!
Good times!

18° here, and still snowing. The weather warning lasts until 6pm tomorrow evening. Big system.

Yeah. 18 here now as well.
Still breezy, but the cloud cover is thinning, so by the time i get off work, I can go out and shovel for an hour or so.

Saw my new neighbor across the street literally kicking snow out of his driveway, so we offered him a shovel to use, he ended up scooping our drive out as well. That's 2 rather long driveways. Ah, to be young again...

Appreciate it! If I go that route I'll be sure to be extra safe:)

Wood Splitter Wood Splitter I assume you are out on the Wet Coast? Like daizee daizee said, we want pics!

I certainly am. I'm on Vancouver Island. If I manage to get it all together I'll be sure to take WIP pics!
