Bladite, I'm sorry for you and your friend's loss. I think its pretty fine of you to have been there to help ease her pet's transition, both for the pet and your friend.

they had a good run. good dog. it was the right thing to do.

Is that the dragon killer model?

I wish! I was thinking I might be able to mod it into something similar if I can find a cool enough broom handle when my wife goes to bed tonight. Keep you posted.

At least it is specific to the Amazon. It probably wouldn't work anywhere but where the box says so, so if it's not what it's cracked up to be then you may have to move to the Amazon jungle to get the proper use of the knife :D

Man what has this knife got me into, I'm too fair skinned to live in the jungle.:D

got my jerky from Trade. is tasty.

i'm just back from helping a friend put her 14 yo companion dog, and one i knew for probably 8 years onto the rainbow bridge.

the dog got some jerky and cheese and many fine treats and a good walk and many many many hugs and scritches. it was a good passing, if such things can be good.

now, one less good goofy and kind soul in the world.

a glass of mead to my friend and her good dog.

Sorry about your fine friend Joe. Sounds like you gave a good farewell.

It is hard to quantify a relationship like that, Bladite. I am sorry for your loss.
Most of us have gone through it several times, but that never makes it any easier.

Hopefully there is solace in the fact that you got to experience that relationship and were able to give her a proper good bye.

Smoke heading up for your friend - and her person.
being called on to ease a beloved dog's pain is the price we pay for their unconditional love.
small comfort that it is, know that you were there to help ease & speed her passage across the rainbow bridge and to the summerlands where she will be waiting when your turn comes.

Sorry for your friend Bladite. Sucks to lose a piece of family like that.

went over to lana-steel to help move stuff around. We ended up clearing a work table and mounting her Cha's Parker 3-1/2. I set up the table as a knife (and other) sanding/finishing station. Knife board is a little small for this one...

Bladite, sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I have more respect for animals than I do most people.

Hey bigghoss, if you shave your head have you ever tried a head blade? It's a little yellow razor with a curve and wheels that is designed to shave your head ( and only the head as the blade faces forward) , I used one for around a year when I was shaving my head and loved it, very simple to use.

Never even heard of one. I might look into it but the Mach III doesn't give me any issues.

Anyone else get any sweet Christmas presents this year? Check this bad boy out! :D Finally something Guyon will be jealous of!

AUS-8, wow. I was expecting "genuine 420 sugical stainless steel".

I love chisel grinds... on chisels. Otherwise, not so much.

Pretty much. I like knives with chisel tips, but even then I prefer a symmetrical grind of some kind.

mommas favorite attitude adjuster lol!!

I had the .357 mag version of that. After it broke for the second time I unloaded it and bought a Ruger SP101. It's heavier but the quality is so much better. I'd buy a Ruger LCR .357 if they didn't have the stupid internal lock.

Texas cake, chocolate fudge, and peanut butter fudge in the house. Damn hard to stay out of.

I'll be over in a minute.

Well, my 8" boning knife curved in heat-treat and my little forge is a bit small in BTU's for something that long. The back half of the blade isn't as hard as it should be. What was that I said about file knives being a bad idea? :D tempering and straightening time... then see if it's worth finishing out.

Sorry for the loss of a great friend, Bladite. My pets have always been very important to me.

Just circumnavigated the earth twice flying the F16 in Google Earth. Yes, I am bored.

got a little over-eager straightening the file knife and forgot some basics. First broken blade during straightening. All that leverage on a thin blade helped, especially as it cooled and I lost patience... Too bad, that long brushed blade was pretty hot.
However, this is actually an opportunity. The blade snapped in the hardness transition area, and if I grind a couple inches of tang out of the back it can still have a nice 4.5" blade which will actually look very good in those proportions and have a much more consistent heat-treat.

Here are some ideas. Which do you like?
