Snark it! Snark it good!

Somebody posted a while back about a guy selling a knife on the bay and claiming it was a BK2. Not sure if he has multiples or if it just didn't sell but he's at it again.

Pretty much. I like knives with chisel tips, but even then I prefer a symmetrical grind of some kind.

If it's a symmetrical grind, it's not a chisel tip, is it? It's just a remarkably un-pointy tip :D

Issues of usefullness and smart-alec-ness aside, I confess that part of the fun of grinding a FFG or full-convex blade with a "chisel" tip is laying it out right in the first place. If you just hack the end off square and try to grind a single bevel on it (before or after grinding the main bevels), it will come out all catty-wampus.

I was under the impression that a chisel tip was a more-or-less squared off blade but didn't necessarily have to have a chisel grind. The Razel series is a good example of this. I really like my CRKT Ringed Razel, though I would make some tweeks if I could.

Morning, Beckerheads....
Got a decent amount of Big River money coming my way..... I have a hunch a new Becker will be headed this way shortly thereafter. Decisions decisions.

got a little over-eager straightening the file knife and forgot some basics. First broken blade during straightening. All that leverage on a thin blade helped, especially as it cooled and I lost patience... Too bad, that long brushed blade was pretty hot.
However, this is actually an opportunity. The blade snapped in the hardness transition area, and if I grind a couple inches of tang out of the back it can still have a nice 4.5" blade which will actually look very good in those proportions and have a much more consistent heat-treat.

Here are some ideas. Which do you like?

Fourth one

I was going to say the same thing, but i didn't want anyone thinking i was being a smart-a$$.... so i figured my very thought out, intelligent answer above was more appropriate.

*lol*

It already IS the fourth one! The black one at the bottom is the blade fragment itself.
The first one is kind of pukko-ish.

what on earth causes someone to do such absurd things?

It's either a chisel grind or it's not. The definition is pretty clear.

Some people are so mind-bogglingly stoopid that they're convinced everyone else is even stoopider. Those types tend to find each other and congregate in a whirlpool flurry of self-perpetuating stoopidness.

I like the third one there Diazee the one with the contoured handles, full fingergaurd and buttplate. Of coarse you know id pick the hardest one though. (this is the file knife were talking about right?)

I am suddenly seized with an unholy desire to buy up every old file I can find and fashion them into something resembling a knife...

"Knife people" know better... but I assure you... that sort of thing sells like buttered hotcakes on a Sunday morning, and icewater in Hell among "normal" people. Also, railroad spikes and worn-out leaf/coil springs.

Not sure if anyone saw the UFC fights last night but check out this ending to the main event. This is why I don't like to throw inside leg kicks. WARNING! THIS ISN'T FOR EVERYONE! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE COULD VIEW AS GRAFFIC DON'T WATCH.

Ouch. I've seen that happen a few times in different sporting events.

I'm going to go with the one no one has chosen (of course) I like the profile of the 2nd one; maybe with a little different transition from the choil to the bolster? WTFDIK, I'm not a knifemaker!

Meh, refilled my zippo a couple of days ago just to have fun with it. Wanted to light it again, but the fluid already evaporated. I've been having the same discussion in my head every single time this happens to me. "Why does everybody love these things when they run out so quickly?"
Using them more would probably be an added value, I guess. But since I'm not a smoker... I might just have to conclude that zippo's or any type of lighter is just not for me.
But then again, zippos ARE fun to play with. Regular lighters are no fun at all. But as a non-smoker in a "being somewhat prepared for when you might someday need to use it for a fire" it's actually quite useless apart from the fun factor. Anyway, just my opinion and just venting :)

Buttered hotcakes....mmmmmm...sounds good!

honestly, it's the self-perpetuating part that concerns me most.

Ha! indeed, I'm not surprised. :-) It's VERY tempting, but I'm thinking about trying that style on a double-ground file knife.

there's that self-perpetuating thing again. my fault this time!
You know, if I regularly sat a flea market table or something this would be a sweet idea. Especially since Gene in the stall upstairs has BUCKETS of old files! There's something really compelling about this kind of re-use regardless of the obvious and serious limitations.

You can occasionally find a rubber insert that slows the evaporation quite a bit. Reality is its more leaking than evaporation.
