OMG skateboard talk! Before the topic shifts.... the wheels and bushings on my old vert board from the late 80s are shot. Can I buy off the shelf stuff to replace them (getting back into skating) or have axle diameters/wheel diameters/whatever changed so much that I need to buy a whole new setup?

longboarding like cruising the boardwalk, or longboarding like bombing the steepest hill you can find and riding thru the speed wobbles screaming in triumph when you make it to the bottom alive?

what board you got?

I have bombed a few hills, but I gotta say, that sh*t is scary as hell. I mostly cruise these days, the board I'm building right now will be a pump setup (pumping means using small alternating turns to gain forward momentum). I'm making the deck myself, I'll post some pics when it's done.

It's still all basically the same. Don't spend more than 15$ on bearings. Steel spacers are good. Khiro or Venom bushings are the bomb. ABEC11 makes a nice wheel.

axle dia/bearings remain the same, bushings are the same, the only things that have really changed is the truck baseplate hole pattern

sweet, love to check it out when done... what are you making it out of?

Fiberglass against torsion, top and bottom layers are 4mm birch plywood, center is 4mm poplar plywood. So it is:

glass
birch 4mm
poplar 4mm
birch 4mm
glass

It will be pretty stiff, but have a lively flex because of the fiberglass. Probably a bit on the heavy side, but that's no biggie.

You flockers probably just contributed to my demise.
I started shopping longboards around town and found a Gone-Out-Of-Business firesale.
I just gave the "I'll take it" on a Mirimar Natalie deck with Randal 150 longboard trucks and Abec 11 Big Zigs.
Guy's tossing in bearings and hardware for a complete build, and I'll be out the door at $100 cash.
Hope I did okay.

I'll be the old fat geek wearing a helmet. :D

I'm thinking a BK9 (rampless) would be appropriate with that rig.

Shit. Now I've got to get a unicycle and learn to juggle. It never ends.

Dude. I saw the helmet cams at REI last night. Now I'm going to have the perfect excuse to get one.
