Great now it works but i lost my other post.... Screw it.

Awesome stuff Trade.

My computer made me update to windows 8.1. I kept refusing when they asked me but then they stopped asking me and decided just to tell me they were updating it so i better save my work. Now im just waiting for the problems to start. I already had windows 8. Now the only big difference i have noticed so far is the way things look is a little different, and there is a start menu thing that if you left click on it you can do some of the things like in the older versions of windows... Thats a plus... But a lot of my settings have been restored to factory, that is a negative... Im sure ill notice more issues soon enough.

Trade - Very cool flag and certificate.

When I retired from the Army in 2005, I was stationed in Hawaii at the time, so they gave me a shadow box with a US flag that had been flown over the USS Arizona memorial on Sep 11 of the previous year. I'll make sure the kids take care of it when I fade into the sunset.

FAIL.

Let me try posting more than 1 word again.......

High Flat. This type of grind is pretty self explanatory and shown in the diagram. The main grind is flat, and ends closer to the spine are of the knife. Where things can get confusing with this type of grind (and a full flat grind) is the secondary bevel. It can be a v-grind, a convex grind, or a compound grind (which is multiple angles of a v-grind closely simulating a convex grind).

People tend to get confused because someone will say that they put a “convex edge” on their knife. It often gets interpreted as a full convex (referenced earlier). Obviously, putting a full convex edge on a high flat ground knife would be very difficult. What they are usually talking about is the secondary bevel has been put on with a convex profile. To see more about doing this, and how to do it, please visit the sharpening area of this website.

I think that's what happens when I try to sharpen a knife. Now I now what to call it! :D

I was looking into getting my first strop and I was looking at the flexxx field strop and the knives plus strop block, any opinions?

No experience with those and I am sure they are nice, but heck I say have fun one afternoon and make your own! Leather can be sourced from like a boot/saddle shop, or a hobby store, wood from well... anywhere... and then all you need is glue and some compound. They are purty easy, and fun to make and mess around with. Just an idea!

Guys my tip just broke on my ZT 0550, I tried fixing it as best as possible...
The tip is basically without a point but it's sharp as hell..It can shave but it loses a lot of penetration power...
I need better tools in order to actually give it a point again.

Just drop the tip a bit! Use you're WSKOE on the spine

I was thinking about it, however I think I would need my buddy to help with the stability.
It'll be a project when I get out of my last night shift Tuesday morning.
It's going to be a fun experience. I'll have to resharpen it.

I did just put a 17.5 degree angle on it and I gotta say, it took very nicely.
S30v likes it, took it to 8k grit and it's toppling hairs like it's going out of style.

I don't mind S30V or Elmax....shallowest angle is on my 0121. That is at 16 degrees, very slicey.

16 degrees is a very interesting angle, usually it's either 15 or 17.5. How's the edge retention at 16?

Great  I havn't had any problems with it. It survived my testing (battoned it through a few seasoned maple 3inch logs, whittled a spoon, cut up some cardboard into strips) and wasn't chipped or rolled. I could still shave with it and clean cut water bottles.

Neat, my re-edge it after I fix my tip to 16 degrees then.
Or just micro bevel the 17.5 with 16.

Coolio!

My littlest 'un just woke up from his nap. Time to head over to the inlaws for a visit and dinner! Maybe even get into the rum a little with my brother inlaws :D

That is awesome Trade. Knowing you I bet you were proud and humbled at the same time. I don't know how someone is lucky enough to receive such and honor but it is awesome that the US military does things like this.

Thank you for your service.

Jeremy

My camera is JACKED UP!! I made a video the other day showing the new edge i put on a knife and i had to record the video like 4 times. I wasted a lot of paper that day LMAO.... Id hit record, it would show it was recording and then it would just stop recording after a minute or so and turn off despite having a fully charged battery and plenty of room on the memory card. Even taking pictures. If i take to long to snap a picture it just cuts off sometimes. I dont mean waiting a few minutes, i mean 20-30 seconds. 1 lens thing never closes fully and the other catches when i turn it on about half the time. Sometimes when i try turning it on it just makes a lot of clicking sounds LOL.... But this camera has been through hell. And has served me well for 2 years before starting to act up so i guess its time to retire it.

Plus im running out of room to make cutting and chopping videos because of these tools LMAO... A fair trade as far as im concerned but id like to make a few videos using some of these tools once i get a new camera... I think my wife will be getting me one for xmas though so im not going to get one beforehand and ruin her gift idea.
