Sweet ride. He looks proud too.

Yeah hes beamin. He probably put 20 miles on thing ridin around the neighborhood. At one point he even had a couple of boys follow him home to check it out. They thought it was pretty cool to. Them being close to his age they had never seen a bike like it. They couldn't believe he built it. He was cheesin pretty good on that. Lol.

By the way Trade, I just got off the phone with a customer out in Colorado area. I swear by all thats holy I thought I was talking to you. The guy sounds 100% exactly like you. Got the Barlow slang and all. You got a twin out there?

I worked out there a couple of years.......how old is he..:D

Todd that is pretty awesome about the bike... You gonna teach him how to make one with a long front end? That bike kind of just screams for it! It is sweet!

Hes older than you. However, that is impossible for anybody other than the great Tradewater! .........Does Chuck Norris still send you Christmas cards? :D

I brought home some tinder fungus from Michigan and am wanting to prepare it for use with flint and steel. A guy just told me it needs to be boiled in urine. Nope. I don't think that's happening. I can imagine asking Kay "Which pot can I use for piss boiling this fungus?".....

Lol, I guess the tinder fungus in Maine is the no urine required kind.

Just rough it up a bit or make it a powder and drop your spark on it and watch it grow.

Hey, G! Yes, it's true, you do need a Machax.
When I get my sh..tuff together, I got a thread I'm gonna post with you in mind. No fossils, but me and the girls spent the afternoon in an old mica mine. Lotsa rocks and minerals, and a few semi-precious gems. Plus it's just a cool place and as a bonus, close to trailbum's house (Northeast Gathering).

Looking forward to that tread! Sounds like an awesome place to spend some time. Gonna shoot you an e-mail one of these days...

Throwing the Cold Steel shovel at a target. I can't stop. :D Hiking in the swamp after lunch.

OK, OK. I give up. You guys win. I just ordered the shovel. But I still don't believe all the hype. I cannot believe it will make me look young, handsome and thin.:D

I have one of the Rothco shovels, even gave it a work out this weekend but I feel the need to get one of those cold steel ones anyway.

Every once in a while a game changer comes along. You just have to jump on the wagon or get run over.

Uhhgh, stomach is feelin a little rough this morning. So was my daughters, hope were not getting some kind of a bug. :(

In other news...... is anybody here fans of the old Schwinn Stingray bicycles? I always had a soft spot for them. There big amonst collectors now. Cant touch one in mint condition for less than a few grand. Anyways, I justed to pick them up anytime I saw one at a yard sale here and there. Thought maybe id restore one someday. Havnt fooled with them since I had kids.

So, up in the attic I've had a few big boxes of just old sitngray bike parts collecting dust. No running bikes, just piles of parts. My son took interest in the boxes when he spotted them up there a couple of months ago. Asked if he could mess around with them. I thought it would be a cool learning activity for him so I said yes. I did not help him at all other than put new tubes in the tires for him. I gave him a little corner in my shop just to see if he could make something work. Low and behold, last night for the first time he rode a bike that he 100% figured out and assembled himself. I was pretty proud of him. While a lot of kids his age sit on there butts in front of the T.V. he was out in the shop trying to figure out and make something work. Good boy.

He even jazzed it up with some custom lights, lol. He rode this thing all day yesterday.

That's awesome. Reminds me of things we did like that when I was a kid, love the proud smile on his face.

I jumped on this hard cider just to be safe. The early bird gets the draught.

Todd, let your boy know there's another bike nut here in NH. I used to do the same thing when I was a kid, except for I was (still am) a trash picker for bikes and parts. Led me to one of my first jobs - bike mechanic. I have 4 Schwinn's, no Stingrays tho. Always wanted one of the Apple Crates, with the slick rear tire and the shifter on the top tube. I do have a tandem from the 70's - but it's in need of a lot of tlc that I don't have time to give it.

That is awesome to see a young person that is into that sort of thing....you know, there are still jobs out there that don't require a whole lot of computer skills. If I weren't on my phone I'd link to the "Bicycle Repairman" Monty Python skit....funny chit rat chair.

Well, there's this big river website... and a new Cutlass Machete can be had on there for just under 27 USD. Just saw this posted over on the W&SS forum here on BF. Thought I'd share. Wanted to get it for myself, but Amazon doesn't ship this kinds of tools to my country. Sucks, 'cause that's one hell of a steal for a (piece of) steel :-)

Edit: seems to be out of stock, but I suppose you can order it at that price though.

I have a complete orange stingray. Every piece is original and there. It looks like a time capsule. Some kid rode it behind there parents barn and parked it. Then it set right there like that for 30 years. The handle bars, crank, and chain all frozen in place. It still even has the barrel lock chain frozen in place around the seat post. Original drag slick about rotted off of it. Its all your there. Its not fit for anything else but wall art now, but thinking about maybe seeing if the boy wants to make a lowrider trike out of it. Might be a cool father son project.

My current router at work, this is what I work with everyday. It has a multi tool setup, and when it works it is great, when it is playing up it is a major pain in the butt.
