Today's the last day of school, it went by really fast. Most of my freinds were seniors this year, so it's going to be interesting next year

Congrats on finishing the year Spike!! What grade you going to?

They go to school till June 18th here.

I get done with school for the year on June 10th. I homeschool though, so it's not too bad. I can always take a little break during the day if I want to.

well, i'll put you down for a canceled warranty just in case :D how's that for snark? :P

but also a temporary infraction for sticking a perfectly good tree you had no intention of batoning

:grumpy: :D

But sometimes they actually do want to learn... so if he stumbles into Beckerland, play nice :)

I know. ;)

I noticed that too... I'm not a trained forester any more than I am a wildlife biologist, but I don't think that's good for growing trees. It seems to me you might could find some dead/down limbs to practice stabbing and especially peeling bark off of, Dawson. Dead dry stuff burns better anyway. Just a thought. ;)

True. The tree I used for the "throwing" pic was dead already though. I don't think peeling the bark off will kill that particular tree, and I know I probably shouldn't have peeled the bark off, and I know that wet stuff doesn't burn very good, but if it does kill the tree, there are plenty of small saplings growing right beside it that will need the space anyway. Always need some more firewood to burn up there too, this time we were mainly going off of a few sticks we could find on the ground.

I don't believe stabbing them for a pic hurts either, since just about every Maple in the area gets tapped for syrup making, and most syrup makers around here don't plug the holes or anything. Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it. :)

First.. Im FAR FAR VERY FAR from being a tree hugger.... I can understand some people's position on the subject, but also feel some people go to far with it... Half the people that complain about cutting trees live on a lot that use to be COVERED in trees, so if they can gain, they are fine with it, but if it doesnt benefit them, their living situations, then all of a sudden its so wrong...

A lot of times taking out some of the smaller trees is beneficial to the overall eco-system. Too much growing in one spot takes nutrients/light from it all....

Back on topic, Stabbing a tree will not kill it. Carving your name in it will not kill it. Peeling back a little of the bark will not kill it either... Unless the tree is already dead/dying then 1 stab or a little missing bark will hardly KILL it.... And Plants dont feel pain, but an injury to them makes them send valuable nutrients to the wound site, taking nutrients away from the rest of the plant.

Lots of gardeners often prune and top trees and plants to get them to send these nutrients elsewhere, if done right it doesnt harm the plant at all. In fact its highly beneficial!!

All that being said, i dont believe in just going out and taking down trees for no reason at all. I dont go throwing knives and hawks into live trees... Put it this way.... If someone stabs you with a pencil in the leg/arm will that kill you? NO.... Would it suck? YES.

:D

Yes, but trees don't feel pain, I do. :D

Also, trees can't punch me in the nose when I stab them, I can. :D

That reminds me... Years ago i had a vegetarian buddy who would try and talk me out of eating meat... Id tell him, for the most part trees and plants dont kill or harm anything, so why should we kill and eat them? Wouldnt the right thing be to ONLY eat other predatory animals??

Man it would get him going good :D Id play like a tree hugger just to mess with him, he'd talk about how my burger use to have eyes, id tell him cows cause global warming, but the carrots he was eating never harmed anyone and he should be ashamed of himself :p

It was all in good fun. I wouldnt just go up to normal vegetarians starting stuff. I think its AWESOME that people can feel and believe what they want... But we were good friends just messing with each other.

Last i talked to him he had started eating fish as well... So i asked how he prepared their eyes :D

Yesterday I noticed that the brand on my stove was "Frigidaire." I thought that was pretty ironic, because, you know, stoves produce a lot of frigid air... Then I checked my refrigerator. Brand on that is "Hotpoint." Yup, definitely ironic.

I had some fun in General today... I know I shouldn't have, but it was too perfect.

:D:D:D
Oh you should see the subreddits r/knives and r/knifeclub over on reddit... Lawdy, some of those guys are not the sharpest crayons in the cookie shed... Makes genpop here seem like MIT... I had to just stop browsing them. Lol!

Hmmm...... I see an opportunity there. :D

Having spent many years as a nationally published gear reviewer, I'm always amazed when folks review products they don't fully understand.

I think if I was a gear reviewer I'd talk to someone who was part of the designing process before publishing my review so I could understand it!

She likes it, she's just trying to drink whiskey from a bottle of wine

This screwdriver is a terrible hammer!

Sigh... there will always be plenty of people whose minds are made up before they even open the box, and who write/talk just to hear themselves. It's their loss. If I had followed that line of "thinking", I would have never tried, much less embraced things like high-alloy steels, G10 and particle metallurgy... perish the thought! Those materials comprise about 90% of my work now... ;)

I kinda figured you were being reasonably mindful, that's why I didn't give you any guff in your 30-day thread. Carry on

I LOVE vegetarians......they taste like chicken.

I had the same setup at my house and I, too, thought it quite ironic.

I'm sitting degree on the back porch getting the charcoal going. 69 degrees in May and the lightest possible mist (which might be too strong a term). I'm not sure I live in Texas anymore.
