Think I just got a good haul...
Had a day off today and went to some DIY/surplus stores in the neighbourhood looking for some gardening tools, comparing prices and the like.
I didn't get what I was looking for, but in one of the stores I bumped on a whole Bahco display. Axes, hatchets, even tomahawks (which you don't see that often over here) were displayed. And then two things caught my eye.
A folding saw and a knife. I remember reading and seeing a vid or two about Bahco saws and the name "Laplander" did ring a bell, but I didn't see that here.
The knife though, the knife just screamed "Mora". I didn't have a Mora yet, always postponed a purchase, but seeing this and holding it,... I felt like owning it.
You all know the feeling when you're standing in a brick and mortar store, holding something you'd like, turning it around to see the pricetag and already holding your breath for the disappointment... That's when the good part came. 7 EURO for the knife??? Checked some other ones just to be sure, but yep!
So I got home with a Bahco folding saw xt7 and another fixed blade (Bahco 2444) for just over 30 euro for the two. Maybe not thé best deal (maybe I could have gotten them cheaper online, but then again there's often shipping), but I absolutely cannot complain about these two items for 30.
When I got home, I got to researching a bit on them, here's what I found. The saw is essentially the same as their Laplander, other than this one has no coating and a different colour scheme (but who cares, it's stainless) AND the teeth on this one are supposed to be harder and would be more suited for hardwood or seasoned dry wood. I've seen it advertised as the bahco pruning folding saw at some places. Great deal!
The knife that looks like a Mora...is actually a Mora Clipper (now disco'd and recplaced by the Companion), made by Mora, branded Bahco. It's stainless though, and I've grown fond of carbon steel blades in fixed blades but again, there's no complaining since it cost me 7 euro...
Enough rambling, here's some pics. They still have 4 of those Bahco 2444, and I'm inclined in just driving down there and picking them up for that price, throw one in the car, one in the shed, one for the toolbox, on in the greenhouse,... Hmmm. Choices. What do you think?
I kid you not, it is by far the sharpest knife out of box I've gotten. And it bites DEEP.
Bottom cut by Bahco, upper cut by BK11.
Here's the line where the teeth are hardened on the folding saw.
Goody goody, I'm pretty happy
