My 2c, lets all be nice eh? Agree or not, whatever, but show your upbringing. Oh? Some are? Well polite is good, insults are the reaction of the angry. I will not defend Cliff here, but he is commenting on what he has seen, on the screen. Sometimes that is enough to make an opinion (if a weak one). I notice how people on bladeforums always jump up to say hi! To a knifemaker. How about the same respect to normal members?

For the record, this knife is very simlar to my dropoint K.I.S.S. Same type of steel etc, etc. It does look good value and it looks nice. For the price I would buy one. Please no one offer to let me test one...

I don't see how I can go wrong with this knife for $20.00. This looks like a perfect knife to have around for small tasks. Cutting up lunch, apples for the kids that sort of thing.
Thanks Will for giving us a chance to try one of Darrels knives for a great price.

Sorry if I offended some with that...

Something I wrote in regards to cord wrap :

$0.10 of materials and 1 minutes work

I overlooked a couple of basic economic factors in the above. The cost estimate Anthony noted is realistic.

I know I am going to get crucified..but 20bucks for a plain flat slab of low grade stainless don`t seem like a bargain to me and it sure don`t look comfortable to work with. You could buy a steak knife for a lot less.Sorry, but I do not get it,where`s the advantage or is just the cheap appeal?

OK,now I`ll duck....

BLZ BUB,
Simple solution. Just find a better designed knife/sheath combo that fills the same niche for less money and let us know so we can buy them.

Bub, there is a fair amount of illogic cluttering up your argument. First: You call the ArcLite a "plain flat slab." Keep in mind, that it is designed and marketed as a neck-knife, to begin with. Though, if you go back to the first post you will see a well designed recurved blade that can hardly be described as plain. While the skeleton handle obviously reduces weight, it serves very well to give you more traction in your grip. And it's light. Remember, it hangs around the neck.

Secondly, this knife is produced in 420HC, a stainless steel few know very well. Though inexpensive, it is highly stain-resistant (hangs around the neck, remember?) and has been tested to exhibit excellent properties if heat-treated properly.

Third, it is a U.S. made steel, and a U.S. made knife.

I have handled a few of these, and can tell you from actual experience using the knife, that it is an excellent small fixed-blade knife for small chores. There is a lot of utility in its design. It is, also, easily concealable, and can be rigged with a small Tek-Lok for a lot more versatility.

This is an excellent value even at $27.50, its actual retail price.

I am glad you highlighted your final statement, thank you for supporting my theory that it is ,indeed, all about `cheap`when all is said and done. That is,after all,as you point out the MOST remarkable feature of this knife,as every thing else appears to be compromized to achieve this goal.Money IS tight, despite what the politians tell us,however I can usually come up with the funds to equip myself in a better, less compromising manner. To each his own, obviously the image of preparedness is more important than the reality of performance in possibly serious situations. And why not?Cheap weapons for the masses!Go ahead, lull yourselves into a sense of security...

Now I am sure you are a Troll. Cheap Weapons? Is this knife nothing but a weapon? Do you think All knives are weapons?

Certainly you are right about 'to each his own'. Many people have paid several times this amount to have an ArcLite made from 420V steel and ground by Darrel's own hands. The design is the same. Only the steel and the cost is different.

Some folks like to carry a slim, light slab of steel as a back-up or emergency knife. Others prefer a trim fixed blade for general utility use to a folding knife. The design considerations and 'compromises' made with this type of knife are Not all about cost. It is a form of minimalism. An asthetic thing. It also has a Functional purpose.

If you don't like this style of knife, don't buy it. But please don't come in here trolling for a fight ('I know I'm gonna get crucified'). Expressing your dislike of the knife is fine. Making insulting statements about the people who do like the knife is not acceptable.

Welcome to the forums BLZ BUB. I hope you really want to hang out with fellow knife knuts and learn something. If all you want to do is argue, you will have a tough time of it around here. Enjoy!

BLZ,

Given your "logic," the solution is even more simple. All Camillus has to do is raise their price.

Then it won't be so "cheap."

DearP.,
I am not insulting anyone,at least that was not my intention, and I certainly do not consider all knives to be weapons. However some people apparently do so,and face it a neck knife can easiy be construed by the less informed as a concealed weapon.I do not believe I am going out on a limb here when I infer that some of the respondants do indeed consider this`piece`as such,ie. a back-up.Try to convince the masses of the utility of such a knife as being supplimental to a common pocket knife in its usefulness, and you WILL draw fire from the less enlightened.
And is it wrong to express my opinion here on this `open` forum?I notice when others do,forgive my indelicacy, they seem to be attacked for voiceing their concerns. Are we all supposed to line up and go along with everything that seems to be Vox Populi?
I do not think much of this knife,it`s true,I felt a need to jump in when I saw others who felt the same being dismissed as inconsequential, and this is not fair.I might,if given to irrational paranoia, think some ,with material gain at stake, could be manipulating this thread for business purposes.I,like others who seldom chime in,have observed over-posting and the use of so-called public forums for free advertizing, and we have a right to express our opinions--or do we?
My view of this knife is ultimately my own,if you feel I have no right to state my opinion,I am defenseless here, and I am wasting my time.Others who believe in free speach will agree that it may be pointless to contribute in view of such editorial policy.
You, sir, called me a troll, and I have made no such aspersions.I have merely stated my opinion of what I consider to be a somewhat dubious piece of cutlery. Now it becomes an issue of censorship and,I am beginning to suspect, marketing.

Im glad you dont care for the knife. I respectfully dont feel you fully understand the concept. Your ideas may be different than others ideas. Thats ok.
Para hit the nail on the head. You may want to re-read his post.
Say what you want BUB . This is an open forum.

Camillus is a real hard ball company when it come to function.
Camillus is 125 years old next year.
A company this old thinks about repeat business as a way of life according to there age. Most companies dont make it 5 years.
BUB ,
The statement your making about this knife being a scam is kinda fluffy in my opinion.
125 year old companies dont make it that long
selling swamp land to idiots. The folks on these forums are the toughest knife buying crowd in the world IMHO. Your insulting them.
Expect to be insulted back.

Hee, hee, heee! Troll roast!

BLZ Boob: It is a small, little utility knife. It will do anything that the millions of folding pocket knives being carried by people currently do, only with the solidity and security of a fixed blade. It isn't a Battle Mistress, it isn't a Kasper Bulldog, but there are a million cutting jobs that the Arc Lite will do better than grandad's folding trapper. So what if it needs sharpening now and then, you are not going to dig trenches with it. If you don't like to sharpen, spend $200 more and get one made out of CPM S90V.

A Gerber LST costs $19.95, and its a great little tool for the money. A Henckels steak knife is around $35. You could buy a steak knife for $5, and you can drive a Daiwoo. I'll take the Arc Lite and a Honda, thank you very much.

In my opinion, the Arc Lite is one of the most aesthetically perfect knife designs I've ever seen. Darrel Ralph's design touch is worth $100 on any knife in my opinion. Compare the Arc Lite to the KISS, and you will see what I mean.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you know what they say about pearls before swine....

Sometimes it is so much fun not being moderator.

Excuse me, but where is the Censorship you refer to? Is the thread marketing, well, to some extent. But it is also informational in nature. I personally have no finacial stake in this product, nor in BladeForums. I am not paid to moderate this forum, and I am not employed by the knife industry. I am a knife collector, not a seller (I have never sold any knife to anyone). I am proud to know both Darrel Ralph and Will Fennel from conversations in the BFC chat room and from seeing them at shows.

I am not personally buying this knife or its custom equivalent either. It does not appeal to my tastes or needs. I am only interested in trying to enforce the 'Be Nice' policy of BFC. Your posts had the potential to incite more flames in this thread. I would like to leave this one open and not have to shut it down. I already came close to that a couple of times.

I think you are missing a great deal of background information which makes your reading and understanding of what has happened in this thread a little off-base. Much of the arguements in this thread had to do with the comments of a particular individual. He is free to speak his mind, but does so with a well known bias and ill-willed intent. So his posts were attacked. Not because of what he said so much as who was saying it, and why.

But nothing in this thread has been deleted, edited, or altered by anyone except the posters. Nor will that ever occur here at BFC.

Welcome the forums. I am sorry I called you a troll. That was hasty and unfair. It is clear to me that you are a serious minded person, you write very well, and you have misunderstood some of what has happened in this thread. I do not want to fight with you anymore. Your opinions are yours to write, and for us to read. Some may read Your words the wrong way too
