Sodbuster...and lots of them!

Has anyone sanded the scales on the micarta gec sodbuster for a more textured feel, if so, could I get a pic?

I just received this little beauty from the GAW that Brad (coolio) put on, and I'm very impressed. This is my first Sodbuster or Sodbuster Jr., and it seems like a very versatile knife.

Front to back. Kissing Crane Black Angus (Germany), Kissing Crane Brown Mule (China) and Case Sodbuster.

Peachseed jigged jr is my only case - very nice little knife!

I see a lot of kissing crane sodbusters...what do u guys think of them?...ive never had one in my hand..i did put a Robert Klaus sodbuster in my hand the other day...the one that cost like 8 bucks....and truthfully I wouldn't give 3 bucks for it

I recently got a Kissing Crane yellow handle and it is made very well but also got one of the "moonshine" etched ones and it's not so good.

The center one in my picture is a China made one and is a lot better than the black one made in Germany.

Steeltown, the yellow Case JR with red Case logo on the handle is a limited run they did. If I remember correctly, I think it's a 1/500 run, though I could have my run numbers off a bit.

The kissing Crane soddies are ok for the price, you do get what you pay for. The old German made wood Brown Mules are good carbon blade soddies, not perfect but good users.

trevytrev

thanks for the info on the yellow sodbuster....I figured it was a limited run...just didn't know how limited...I got a good price on it so I wouldn't have been hurt either way

:thumbup: Glad you like it Rye!:thumbup:

Well, if anyone was curious as to how a GEC in maroon micarta would look sanded.

It isn't nearly as slick and has decent grip when wet now. The hand feel is quite a bit softer now too.

Thanks, I don't want to come across as trite but it does actually feel like a different knife. Not that the sodbuster is lacking in handling, but this is now one of my favorite carry knives.

Thought I'd bring up this thread to add my own plain-jane sodbusters now that I have photos. Although I'll never have trevytrev's vast or specialized collection, here is a 1st-run GEC Bull Nose and a Carl Schlieper Eye Brand. The Bull Nose is really comfortable with a fat round handle, and the Eye Brand is thin as thin can be and carries really well. Its 1095 seems to be hard and keep and edge a good long while.

I just joined the club of the gec bullnose owners. Its in the mail and on its way. I have a sod buster Jr and standard size. But with everything I have read on this forum. I think that a bull nose is a happy medium. Between the two cases. Sorry if this does not fit this thread. But I wanted to thank all of you for your vast collections of sod busters to help me make up my mind.

Peterson your post fits right in. I think you will enjoy the bullnose, btw the bull nose is barely bigger the a sodbuster Jr. Post some pics of your sodbuster collection when your bn comes in.

Awesome pic Cody, get em started young!

Peterson, glad the pics helped and I'll venture to say that you will be very happy with the Bullnose. Probably the best production rendition of the pattern, imo. Now, if we can get GEC to give us some wood handles and maybe even some bone...drool... Post some pics when she lands!

I need to add some pics to this thread, I've added to my collection the Case Sodbuster Jr in Raspberry Bone, Barnboard Jig Hunter Green Bone, Burnt Oatmeal and the SFO Pink Bubba Gum easy open sodbuster JR. I also scored a rare Moore Maker Sodbuster in Jigged bone...never have I've seen on before and when I did I snatched it up quick! With the finish it appears to be factory but I still need to do some research on it to find out for certain.
