Sodbuster...and lots of them!

Thanks guys!

Ed, as a fellow soddie guy it's nice to see yours posted in here!

Hawk, welcome to the soddie club and you picked a nice one for your first! Enjoy and please post picks of any new additions!

How did I miss this thread !! My first sodbuster as well and coming up to a month of usage for it.

Week 1

Week 2

Week 3

Week 4

That's a nice one Dan. Glad to see you're using it. I hope no golf balls were injured on the green.

That is like my knife I just bought. I don't care what u edc. You cannot beat a bull nose it has not not been in my pocket or somewhere within reach. Since the day I received it. It's a big enough knife to do some larger things. But small enough no one jumps when u pull it out of your pocket. 100% recommend everyone to buy one. And use it. USE IT! USE IT! USE IT! you will love it.

I got this a few weeks ago and was gonna leave it in the tube but I washed it off this am and the micarta is awesome and just wanted to share it. It kinda looks like an old tire with the cords showing.

Here is my first and (so far) only sodbuster. I have only had it for a month or two, but it is already a favorite. Small enough to be unobtrusive, but big enough to do some real work. I would love to get a few more with wood or maybe bone handles. Maybe from Germany, where I have read that the pattern has it's roots.

I just wanted to say thanks to all you sodbuster fans for winning over another fan, I had been familiar with sodbusters for years but I never really liked the look of them, I'm not sure why; but anyhow recently I got my first, and I love it! Seeing the varieties of them on here had placed them in my mind as more of an attractive knife, and then I decided I had to have one. I was wanting a knife about the size of a Buck 110 without the clip point blade, without paying the price for a custom 110. (I wanted it to be thinner as well) The sodbuster I got is a Rough Rider with a liner lock and amber jigged bone scales. I'll try to post some pictures but at any rate it is one heck of a knife, worth more than I paid! I'm thinking about getting a Case sodbuster jr. because its cheap locally, that way I can compare them for quality and such.

Also, did anyone watch the History Channel special "Texas Rising" and notice the nice shot of a sodbuster in use by Santa Ana? Pretty cool if you ask me. It had me wondering what brand it was, but it wasn't exactly etched with a brand name. Normally I'm not too fond of what History puts out, but since it was about the Texas War for Independence I had to watch. It ended up being rather entertaining, and had a very nice variety of old knives in it!

Ya know what Sodbuster doesn't get a lot of love around here? It's Queen's Country Cousin - the bottom knife in this picture. I suspect it's because of the D2 steel blade. It's a handy little knife though - about the same size as the Case Sod Buster - next one up form the Country Cousin.

QCC in D2 was my first soddie. With diamond stones and attention to detail that D2 gets very sharp and holds a scary level sharpness a long time. I can credit the D2 to learning me a thing or two about making things "sharp". As ModocEd's pic shows, the QCC is more rounded in the handle and quite pocket friendly.

One of my knives in high school was a Country Cousin. I still own it and will try to remember and get a pic for this thread.

I picked up the Smith and Sons Mudbug below at Blade Show. GEC really did it up nice with this model, and I've enjoyed getting to know it the past week. I especially appreciate how flat it lies in pocket, and it has a good stiff back spring and great fit and finish.

Smith and Sons are putting out some nice fixed blades too. I also bought one of their Mid Tech Braves at Blade.

Nice one Guyon, the Mudbug really is a nice knife. I especially like the lack of half stop on this model, so smooth to the lockup! I've been tempted to buy one of their fixed blades, I'm sure I'll cave at some point.

The Country Cousin is unsung but very nice. I think the blade profile is a little thick, if they thinned it down it would be even better!

I received these a few days ago, some of the covers are pretty awesome! All are Eye Brand knives, new production short run. I'll do a write up of them soon and post it up but the quick and dirty... fit and finish is a little sloppy on some, good on others. All are functional and feel good in the hand, would make nice users.

Also, scored this old minty fresh Fightin Rooster still in it's box, the yellow scales are pretty sweet! This thing is probably older than I am. I'll get better pics of this one too

Fixed the pics! Also, GEC is doing another run of Bullnoses. These will probably be in 1095 as it seems they are done with 01. Only one new handle material, black linen micarta, the rest are versions they have already done. Orange Delrin, Nifibrite & OD Linen Micarta. There is an SFO of Natural Canvas Micarta coming too. Sure would have liked to seen a wood or maybe even sunbrite. Maybe I should start saving for the next run and do my own SFO:D

Really impressed by the collection. So far I have 4 Jrs, all from Case and I particularly appreciate the black delrinthat I use daily.
Here under a picture of a totally handmade, very short run (and price according to, alas) mineur, I think you'll appreciate.

And yes, the country cousin is very attractive, I think a 070 will be the next one to join the small family.

First is an old Case sod buster 1973 construction that was my grandfathers EDC knife who owned a butcher shop/small grocery in Norfolk, VA was used and abused of every day tasks, opening cases, crates, etc after he died is spent the next ~35 years in our family workshop as a utility knife, banged hard sharpened countless times but joint and blade still as solid as was new 41 years ago

Next it my GEC farm micarta and field am enjoying abusing on my own with a cool leather sheath my dad made

In the mail (I hope)is a confederate series sod buster jr I ordered in a rush since my confederate heritage is being wiped off the map in the last few weeks

Jolipapa, love the custom mineur! I've been looking at some mineurs online to add tot he couple I have already, I really like the French take on the pattern!

Texas, love hearing the great history of the case! A user family heirloom:D The Bullnose is about as good as it gets in soddie land! There have been three Case knives recently that feature the Confederate flag, two were SFO's for two different dealers and the third is the one that has both the north and south flags on the knife.
