Sodbuster...and lots of them!

I just got a Case catalog from a dealer in the mail that displays the SFO Civil War Sodbuster Jr.'s. Interesting timing on those with all the confederate related controversy.

I'd buy a Trev SFO Sodbuster! Any idea what you would select as far as makers and covers?

BTW I just picked up a Redneck Pivot Bullnose in Orange. No Black one to be had but if I locate one you will the first to know.
 
I thought the same thing Brisket, it's either unfortunate or perfect timing, I guess sales will tell.

Obviously I love the pattern and it's history so if I would do an SFO, I would go with wood scales since that is a traditional handle option for the pattern. I think a Cocobolo, Osage Orange or Ebony would be really nice and take it up a notch, though I'm kicking around a few others! All that said, I'm not a dealer here and this traditional forum isn't for talk about where or who to buy from so we must tread carefully because I don't want to break any rules and I want to keep this thread open!

Texas, love hearing the great history of the case! A user family heirloom:D The Bullnose is about as good as it gets in soddie land! There have been three Case knives recently that feature the Confederate flag, two were SFO's for two different dealers and the third is the one that has both the north and south flags on the knife.

[A large non-BF dealer] has a large selection of Civil War knives I ordered the grey sod jr but oddly have not gotten notice of it shipping yet where normally they turn fast so am worried ran out of stock. I do believe this to shall pass just like the run on AR's a while back after which ever shooting it was. the kool aide crowd wants the instant gratification, mob justice, in crucifying a scape goat for crazy actions of individuals, last time it was the AR this time it's the stars and bars, way back when it was Marilyn Manson. Watch the next crazy that shoots up a place will be wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt then all of a sudden CNN will be calling for the burning of Disney DVD,s talking about the racist undertones of Donald Duck.

As for the rest of your post, please be mindful that political talk and social commentary isn't allowed in the traditional forums and your post is outside the guidelines. I love contribution here in the thread but please stay on topic and leave the other stuff for the BF threads that handle those situations. Please post up a pic when your new knife arrives, would love to see it!

Far away from any political second or third thoughts, I' ll admit I am fond of this SFO sod Jr. I love that grey on the scales. Unfortunately they don't ship overseas...
 
I'd like to see GEC or some dealer do a SFO with a 440C blade in the Bull Nose.
 
A Bull Nose with black delrin scales is due to come in the mail tomorrow.

Looking forward to putting it through its paces, and adding it to my modest little accumulation of sodbusters.
 
I received that one recently as well, along with the Union Blue version with US flag shield. I really like color on both, would be nice to see Case release these with regular case shields. I'll post pics of both soon. Congrats on your new knife!
 
I've been trying to figure how to swap the confederate shield off the grey sodbuster. Really like that grey!
 
Elliot, you should be able to pop that shield off and replace it with another non confederate flag shield. Case only glues their shields, and I've had a couple come loose and pop out on their own. A nice dental pick or a small and thin flat head screwdriver could probably pry it up. I'll have to double check when I get home but I think the shield on the Confederate knife is the same oval shape as the Peachseed Amber bone and Chestnut Bone sodbusters. You could probably snag the shield from one of those or maybe even call Case and see if you can buy a replacement. I thought of doing the same when Case did an SFO of red jigged bone with a Confederate flag shield but they released an all red with the generic Case shield a few months later, maybe they will do the same here as well.
