Sodbuster...and lots of them!

I would also like to see that picture of the spread. I have much to learn about sodbusters and the many variations. I have a small limited collection as I'm being smitten by them. While I am at it, has anyone trimmed or sanded Delrin? How 'bout putting a lanyard hole in the Case sodbuster jr.?

Welp! I just ordered a Case Soddie Jr. I need one with that plough etch on the blade. :)

I like mine! I think you will like it. I've been using the Case Soddie, not the Jr. to strip paint this last week. It has not let me down at all.

KJ, love the collection! Would love to see them all laid out so we can see all the beauty:D The two blade Schliepers have always caught my eye, real beauties! I wish they made them in a smaller version, I'd be all over them for an edc.

Henry, crappy cell pics are still good, would really like to see your 1970's Loewen Messer!

Having trouble with Imageshack, but I got these to play:

All I can say is I have had my gec bull nose for a few months now. And I keep pulling out some of my other knives to carry with it. But it seems I have never not carried it. I keep grabbing knives and opening them. Like. This one is the one. But it never feels or looks like the bull nose. Some days I think. I want a nicer looking knife so I get some of my other gec knives. But I can never get away from the simple comfort of the 71. It's not a visual beauty. But a simplicity beauty. I grab a knife that I want my son to see me use that's a nicer knife. But I never get it out of my pocket. There is just something about this knife. A1 tool steel. I cannot stop carrying it. Wish I had an orange one to carry. Or yellow. A yellow 71 would be a dream come true.

kootenay joe, I have a single bladed Schlieper with stag handles I bought last year, slightly used for $5.00, even asked the seller if he was sure about the price. On the spring of mine, about 1/4 inch from the end of the tang is a slight bump on the spring. looks to me that it is there to hit the tang of the blade when it is being closed, so to keep the sharpened edge from contacting the spring. Is there the same bump on your stag Schlieper?

The Sodbuster knife is a folder that just looks, and feels, like it was made to be used and it is.

My yellow CV Sodbuster Jr is my go-to hard work pocket knife. If it's gonna be rough and somewhat abusive I go for the Sodbuster every time.

Yep!^
I'd never put a pocket clip on my Sodbuster but I'd like to see a modern version with a pocket clip.

Mine comes along for many adventures and I just plain ol enjoy carrying and using it. So much that I have a #71 Bullnose in green micarta entoute. ;)

great stuff everyone, keep em coming! Love to here how they are the workhorses in everyone's lineup!

I'll have to get my act together and take a picture of my sodbusters. That isn't something I normally do as I usually just use my knives.

John, great observation on your part. I just looked and my Schlieper Sod Busters have this slight peak or bump as well. I had not noticed this before.
This is yet another reason why the older Schlieper Sod Busters are as good as they get. I say "older" because the Eye Brand knives are still being made but i think the ownership changed 5-10 years ago and the currently made ones do not look the same as far as the handle material goes. I do not have one of these most recent ones so i do not know if the quality is as good.
If anyone knows the recent Schlieper 'history' as to ownership and place (factory) of manufacture i would like hear it. Like all knife companies these changes are done in secret and the truth is hard to know for certain.

I see that Queen has come out with a green linen micarta Country Cousin in a more blockier shape as opposed to the smooth and rounded edges of previous editions, and I'm on the fence on this one...the bird's eye pivot is gone, replaced by a simple rivet/pin; am I the only one who looks for this aesthetic?

The company essentially went bankrupt in 1993, and the name and intellectual rights of Schlieper was bought by Fredrich Olbertz, who continues to make the Eye Brand line of knives in Solingen, Germany. Unfortunately, and from personal experience, the new sodbusters being produced are more of a hit and miss when it comes to quality control. I purchased 3 Eye Brand sodbuster juniors a few months ago, and returned all three for a refund due to poor workmanship...liners were separated from the covers on all three, and there was some final finishing that was missed on the covers. I bought a yellow, a wood, and a black Delrin, and all three were really a disappointment, especially at the street price that most of these can be had, which is about $45.00.
