Sodbuster...and lots of them!

Received just in time for my Grand daughter's birthday. Hope she won't feel blue!

The family is growing.

A good way to grow your Sod Buster family is to search for vintage German folders on ebay. The Sod Buster is the American take in what long had been a traditional German rural work knife. Many Solingen manufacturers made a wood handled single blade 4-5" closed folder +/- bolsters but no caps. Bidding can be stiff(meaning price over $50) but be patient as excellent old examples do fly under radar on occasion.

How are the overall quality of Italian made Antonioni sodbuster?

That would be Antonini. They have a USA distributor in Minnesota, but don't see any online retailers offering this brand yet, but the jungle river site has one, with 2 star reviews. Their sodbuster aka MANIAGHESE is stainless steel, brass liners and pins, and comes in 3 sizes, with wood handles only. I'm sure they'll show up soon enough at a variety of retailers.

Thank you, I'll kep watching.

The quality is fair, they are definitely manufactured as users. Good walk and talk and they come sharp but they may have a gap in the liner or other imperfection. From my collection of sodbusters, I have noticed that many of the manufacturers of sodbusters outside the US allow lots of leeway in the fit and finish department of the pattern. It makes sense, it's supposed to be a cheap user pattern, made to throw in the pocket and abuse the snot out of it. We are a bit spoiled here in the States with Case, Queen and GEC, the fit and finish are exceptional compared to many of their over seas counterparts.

Indeed, MN is what their web site says, but it has to be a typo. I have never heard of Tatum, MN, although I have spent 62 of my 67 years here. Nor is that a MN area code. I'm gonna say New Mexico.

Just ordered a S&S Mudbug. Those are going so fast. I missed out on the OD, Black, and Natural Paper. At least that's what the website told me. So I got the Red with a sheath. There's a catch though. Since these came up for sale a bit unexpectedly for me, I had to do some smooth talking and order my Xmas present a bit early; which means I'm not gonna be able to use this until Xmas day.

In the interim, I'm plotting my acquisition of a SB in a color to be determined later. :D

I was very tempted by a mudbug but these are too tal for pocket-in-ze-City use. I hope they'll do the same with a #71 base.

I got mine sans sheath(although I really wish I had just because) Gorgeous knife!

edited to add: I have a wonderful girl friend ...she bought it ;) thought the covers were the most wonderful material. Just giving credit where it was Definitely due.

I just ordered one of these Mudbug Lockback Sodbusters with Red Linen Micarta covers. Hadda try a lockback.

Is GEC producing the 2105 Mudbugs? Mine came unusually sharp for a GEC. [emoji33] [emoji33] [emoji33]

Yes, GEC is making the Mudbug for S&S. I thought I saw that on the GEC website, and it was confirmed here in the sub.

Awesome. Thanks. It looked like GEC quality, but the wicked sharp blade threw me off.

All in all, it's a sensational working knife.
