Sodbuster...and lots of them!

Out of curiosity, since the Mudbug is simply a locking version of the Bull Buster, with the original first edition style of pivot, is it the lockback feature that attracts buyers, or is there something else?

It was the lock that I was after. I'll be using it for hiking in the Adirondacks. Once my hands get cold and wet, and I start to get stressed, I just don't trust myself without a lock.

What interested me about the Mudbug is the lock. And, I am following S&S on Instagram and at least once a week they post a pic of the Mudbug. So, the constant reminder made me like it even more. Lol.

I ordered a Brave from Smith and Sons last year and was soooooo close to adding the Mudbug to the order. Always kind of regret I didn't. Should have checked my Instagram more I guess ... :o

This Mudbug will be the largest traditional folder I own. I usually prefer 4 inch or less closed on my trads, so we will see how this one works out. It will also be the first folder I've ever bought a sheath for. Interesting times I'll be having.

I really like my Mudbug. The lockback is a good feature for a work knife. Mine is 'perfect', just the right pull, lock bar moves smoothly, not stiff, maroon Micarta handles are nicely radiused to the liners & shaving sharp on arrival.
My understanding is that Smith and Sons, who are knife makers, go over these knives when the come in from GEC, and go over them and 'adjust' if necessary to make sure everything is 'just right'. I don't mind paying just a few dollars extra for this. I think they are a good deal.

This Mudbug with red linen micarta covers arrived today. Nice knife. The same size as my Case 4138 Sod Buster. I may put a GEC bail on the Mudbug.

I'd like to see that one again in about 6 months Ed! :D Is it the same as a #21 Bull Buster, except for the Lock Back? That's a good lookin knife.

Great pics of the mudbugs everyone, they are nice! I really like that they have no half stop, smooth sailing on open and close! They are also a bit thinner than the Bull Buster, which I prefer!

Thanks Bob. Yes, it's the same as the GEC 21 Bull Buster. One thing I like about it is that there is no mention of GEC on the knife at all. It's a Smith & Sons and that's all the info on the knife. It's refreshing to get a knife made by GEC as a SFO for a dealer without all the GEC foo-foo advertising on it. As far as 6-months from now, we'll see.:)

If you pay the Piper, you get to call the tune.

Still an old throwback for me is my Case Sod Buster Jr. New in this picture but well used now believe me. There's just something about a sodbuster style knife that appeals to me.
