Sodbuster...and lots of them!

O.K., so 'nuf of these little 5" Sod Buster. Here's the 'Roid Boyz'.
The 'small' one here is the usual Large Eye Brand Soddie which is 4 5/8" closed.
Next is his Big Brother at just under 6" closed,
And then Mr. Bigz at 8 1/4" closed. He has a good size pick & tweezers tucked into the handle ends.
Shown for scale are a Schrade 124, a 4" Folding Hunter top, and a Schrade 125OT Folding Hunter at 5 1/4" at the bottom.

This very large Sob Buster is not a display knife but a real knife to use.

The 5 7/8" Eye Brand Soddie is great knife, but rarely seen. It originally came with a sheath. If you see one of these for sale it's worth going for.

I have about 60 or more sod busters but not enough time to take pictures. I'll try to get more of these knives photographed when time permits & then post them here.

It looks like burlap micarta to me.
Good observation. It is blue burlap I bought at Wally World. I I got it all out back together tonight but it isn't closing right. Gotta work out some kinks but this one is going to be sweet. I added a half stop to it too. 😀

What are your thoughts on the small and large German Bull stag dirt (sod) busters? I have a few and like them. Not sure what type steel they really are....

I just picked up this Case Sodbuster Jr. I'm not sure what the covers are made of (Case just calls it "synthetic"), but they're light and durable -- perfect for a work knife.

I'm pretty sure it is black Delrin, a plastic. Great knife I use this knife and the sod buster in black Delrin for work knives.

I assumed if it was Delrin, they'd call it Delrin. But given Delrin's prominence as a cover material, it does make sense that that's what it'd be.

Not necessarily. Case has used various plastics for handle material throughout the years and as a rule, call all of them composite; however, I believe "brianv" is correct in his guess at Delrin as that seems to be what Case is currently using on their Sod Buster knives.

Well everyone, I've been outa town for a few days and had some time to brainstorm and work out the kinks. Here is my new old sodbuster with new pants.

And yes with all the half stop glory

Thanks guys. I had it in pocket all day today and it performed very well. It has a tiny bit of blade play side to side but it's actually less than when I got it. I may have to put a new pivot pin in it again but I'm going to use it for a while and see how it goes. My bullnose was still on my belt for backup but felt neglected today

Great work on that one, Bighaze.

I recently pulled out my Case Sodbuster Jr. out of the drawer where it had been sitting forgotten for six or seven months. It's my only sodbuster, which I won in a giveaway from Trevor. I've mostly used it for dirty yard work, and have never really carried it when leaving the house. I hit it with the diamonds a couple times and dropped it in my pocket. Man, this thing is a heck of a slicer. I think I've had a mental hangup with the utilitarian style of the knife and pigeonholed it into hard, dirty work. I've come to learn that that was a mistake. The one thing I would change about this knife is that it's a bit short. With the way the sodbuster curves up at the end, the shorter length makes the Jr. a little snug for me.

I went on Case's site and saw that they are making the full sized Sodbuster with yellow delrin in CV. I got pumped and decided to order one. Before pulling the trigger I did a little investigating to see who else is making a full sized sodbuster in carbon steel. I didn't see many options, but as a last ditch went on GEC's site and pulled up every dealer they list with a website. I found what I believe to be the last O.O. Bull Buster in stock at an authorized dealer and ordered it right away. I've never owned, or even handled, osage orange wood, but I've admired it in pictures here for some time. I'm excited to get to experience it first hand.

Here's a quick shot of my yellow Sodbuster Jr.:

Well, that way overpriced NYC store that rebrands numerous products, like clothes, axes, tools, etc., has officially added their Best Made mantra to the Case Sodbuster Jr...I'm not surprised.:) If anyone is wondering, Case uses Delrin in their synthetic knives.

Picked up a JA Henckels Solingen at an antique shop. Pretty good shape!

Nice pickup Hunter. That one looks like a it might one of the later production Henckles before they stopped making them. I'm guessing this since the etch runs along the blade instead of up and down on the blade. Interesting lanyard hole too, I wonder if that was factory or after the fact, seems a bit unfinished. Great score, throw it in the pocket and put it to use!
