I only have this one so far:

but I hope to do a lot better in the (near?) future :)

Hey Peter, nothing second rate about those Eye-Brands!

Of all the soddies I had, them and the Case's were the top cutters. The Eye's have good plain carbon steel and a nice flat grind that gets wicked sharp. You've got a great knife there.

So, just got my Bear and Sons soddie.... what a waste of 30$.... Shoulda got a kissing crane mule or a country cousin.

Never had one before, so I got in at the shallow end of the pool. Bought this RR locking soddie in synthetic tortoise shell, 4-5/8 inch closed.

It was pretty stiff opening, so I flushed it with oil and began vigorously working the blade back and forth. Just when I thought it was getting better, it hit a stiff spot and slipped. My first "kiss" from the new soddie!

It is very sharp, in fact the sliver of my thumb was still sitting cleanly on the blade when I went to wipe it off! The locking liner tab works very well and it's mighty solid. All in all a very good first sodbuster for $10.

black-mamba, I have exactly the same knife and really like the faux Tortoise.I'd like to see more of this scale around, it is offered on a GEC Congress I believe.

You are right, it is as the British would say, bloody sharp! Good knife in my view.

So mamba, did it at least loosen up a mite by the time it bit you?

Some, but still very tight, and even a little gritty feeling. I flushed it with the tube attachment (jet spray!) with some WD-40, then used Q-tips with mineral oil and worked the blade a bunch, but still tight and gritty (but better).

Any suggestions?

Once the carrier solvent leaves the WD40, it will become sticky and collect dirt and lint. Go to a high grade, thin gun oil. Many are available as mulitpurpose lubes for gun, fishing reels, etc.

When my Queen soddie came, it felt like I was opening a blade that was clogged with sand. I sprayed it with some Liquid Wrench teflon lube, wrapped the blade in paper towels, and opened and closed it. Every 200 times, I sprayed more lube, and little gray powdery micro shavings of metal started to come out of the sticking points along the back.

Apparently, it wasn't the blade at all,l but the springs rubbing on the liners! It must have been a burr that was left on before assembly. I opened/closed until the gray shavings stopped coming out of the back with the excess lube.

After about 1500 times of opening/closing (done while watching TV - not a big deal) the knife opens smoothly now.

Wrap the blade, stick in a movie, and get after it!

Been there, done that on a couple of knives myself. It works!

I like to flush out a new knife with Hoppe's gun oil. It's a very clear thin oil that gets into the pivot area real well. I'll duct tape the blade and work awaay while watching TV. Put a new drop of oil on after a hundrd times opening. Maybe even drop some more Hoppe's on it and prop it up on the backspring and you'll be amazed at what drains out over time; dark gunk.

WD-40 is a good cleaner, but poor long term lube.

Excellent choice. I have been using Hoppe's since I was a kid. I used it because my Dad used it. Then I found out why. After hunting, we cleaned up all the guns and gear when we got home. So cleaning and oiling the knives was just part of it, and the Hoppe's was already out.

So since it was on the table, it was reckoned that since it was good enough for the actions on the Winchesters and Remingtons, it was good enough for the knives. We put clean Hoppe's on the joints, but wiped down all the blades on all the knives with the last clean patch that went through the gun with Hoppe's on it.

Well, you guys got me again. I ordered a Kissing Crane Brown Mule as I was reading the posts in this thread. Can't wait!

Nobody's posted here for awhile so I'll add this one. I was showing a Sodbuster to a customer and his daughter asked to see it. Then she had to have one. Here it is....

I'm going to go broke or die from impatient frustration with all the knives I'm adding to my "must have" list. Nothing like the classics.

My newest Sodbusters just in today. Not really sharp out of the box but very nice. The Queen I think is alot higher quality.
