I never realized just how big a full-size soddie is.

Wow... that is probably the prettiest traditional sodbuster I have ever seen.

Just gorgeous.

Robert

Thanks for the compliments gents. I will say that it is a near perfect EDC. Just the right size at 3 3/4", sturdy built and non-intimidating to others when brought to the fore.
I must admit I was always fairly ho-hum over sodbusters, the pattern just didn't grab me. But seeing one in stag really made the difference to me. I also have a real affinity for this knife because Mr. Johnson is from my home state of Minnesota. Made in beautiful Bemidji.

Carbon steel.

this is the knife many oldtimers over here carried.
Everbody still knows the name but there are not many knife users left.

I safed this one from the trash and think its in my possesion for almost 25 years. Don't use it cause the spring is broken(was like this when i got it).

I got my CV Soddie today. The last one I owned got lost somewhere. It had a black handle, this one has a yeller handle.

I also ordered a Queen Country Cousin (D2) and it came in today as well. So last week - zero. Today 2.

Currently the Case is my favorite as it was sharp out of the box. Not hair splitting sharp, but definitely useable sharp. The Queen on the other hand had an edge like a folding dinner knife. I've been working on it today to get it rebeveled and sharpened. I'm using flat diamond stones and honing it down by hand. It's not quite there yet, but getting there. I hope the D2 blade will make all this work worthwhile.

Whoops! I forgot. Somewhere around here is a Stag handled Kentucky Commemorative Sodbuster. I just thought about it, but I don't remember what cubbyhole is stashed in. So, to correct my previous statement - Last week one, today 3.

Just got this one today. Very impressed. Fit and finish is good and tight, great snap and a carbon steel blade that cuts like an Opinel (high praise from me;)). What's not to like?

Who is the maker of that mule?
Mine's a Kissing Crane, made in Italy. Always heard they were finished a bit rough but this one is a real gem. Still found for a good price out there...pick one up.:cool:

Here is the pair of Case Sodbusters I have. Both owned and carried by my Dad through highschoo I pilfered them both when I was young, and I used to carry them quite a bit.

The top is a stainless steel model with 3 dots, dated 1977. The bottom is a CV model with 6 dots, dated 1974.

Note the liner lock on the stainless model:

I also have the original sheath for the older CV model (No, the knife isn't stored in it).

Needless to say, I believe the Sodbuster bug has bit me again. I may have to get my grubby paws on one of the dark blue American Workman soddies soon... that or the large stockman in the same line .
