That knife is a beauty, Tim. I had a shot to pick up one of those a few years ago and stalled, still regret it.Your Avatar profile says your a Knifemaker / Craftsman. Is that what you really do??
Sorry to digress. Back to splitbacks-

Here's an inexpensive one I picked up on the big auction site a couple years ago. I have no idea of when this was made but what I could find suggest that it may date to 1936-41? I could be way off so any info anyone may have would be welcomed. It looks unused to my eyes and is very tight and snappy.
Also, to be quite honest I'm not even sure if the scales are bone or some composite? The jigging is not particularly attractive and when I got it scales were an ugly, lighter brown/yellowish color. I dyed them with dark brown and may dye again with black. With this jigging though they may come out looking like gumfuddy.

I like the dark brown dye job you did. I've had difficulty with black dye jobs on bone, but Fiebing's leather dye worked well enough for the knife to appear black.
Nice! A whittler with a punch is definitely on my wish list.Another Keen Kutter. It has been heavily cleaned, but, is a bit of a hard pattern to find.

Great Knife, p&g!!Here is a Schrade Walden whittler. A few interesting features on these: sabre grind on the main blade, a notch is cut out of the wedge piece to allow the made blade to be quite long for the handle size, some fancy coining for lack of a better term along the back of the knife. All blades a pretty well sunk into the handle when closed.
