Splitback Whittlers at their Best!

Hardly small!! And quite beautiful, @WValtakis !!
Thanks! I love that knife... I had Hiroaki upsize a Robeson I had for a pattern, in laminated ZDP-189 for the main and ATS-34 for the secondaries. It's been my EDC for quite a few years now, rides on the belt in one of @Gary W. Graley 's awesome sheaths:D

An extremely well made Winchester "Black Box" whittler. I think the thing I like most are the lines on this main spear!

Nice pair to start off the page, JP!!

I just posted this in a Case thread, but it should go here also; a behemoth Whittler, 4 1/2" long!! The wedge, at over 3 3/4", is longer than most pocket knives!!;)View attachment 1540343 View attachment 1540344 View attachment 1540345 View attachment 1540346 View attachment 1540347

That's similar size to the #98 Texas Whittler that GEC produced a few years ago, huh? I handled a couple of those. Probably would have whittled just fine, but those blades were so broad that the secondaries were basically the size of main blades on 3" - 3.5" frames!

That Ohta looks stellar! I've been curious about his work, never owned one but I like that he seems to make such a wide variety of patterns. I know lots of makers do, but most seem to stick to the Lanny's Clips, Zulu Spears, Wharncliffe or Single Trappers, etc. Don't often see custom whittlers except for a rare one from Chamblin, Ruple, or Bose. Would you recommend commissioning from Ohta?
