Spring CA Gathering Above Visalia: 4/30-5/2/10

Dave and Christian, congrats on your new homes... I bet it took at least a couple of days just to move all your knives and guns:D

A few hours ago, I hand-winched a big gun safe into the bed of the old pickup. Nothing valuable gets relocated until there's a substantial safe ready to receive it.

Someday I'd like to have a knife display wall. One of my friends built a somewhat secure gun display wall out of steel and 1/2 inch plexiglass. It would probably stop druggies and unsophisticated thieves who didn't have a lot of time to work on it.

Ray or Lambertiana (or whoever else lives near the site) what do you guys think the weather will be like at the camp area? Is there any snow at that altitude right now?

There won't be any snow unless some freak of nature happens. It rained last year the first night with fog in the morning and cool in the afternoon. I think it was colder when we went in October than when we went last year at this time.

The weather histogram for Visalia shows typical lows of 45 and highs of 75 for the time period. What elevation is the campsite at?

I can't recall clearly but I think it is under 5,000 ft. I think you could get a reasonable estimate from the Hartland Christian Camp website.

I am, I had to schedule way in advance for this and I won't make it if it's moved.

Yeah, when I first posted that 10 day forecast, it was showing 60% chance of rain for Saturday and Sunday. Now it looks perfect.

Besides, Mother's day is the following weekend.

I got the stuff today to make cobbler, and I should be able to make scones, too.

I have some 9mm, so I'll bring my WWII Luger, as well as at least one .45. Ian will want to bust some clays, and he wants to bring the 91/30 (I gave it to him recently, so he is anxious to use it now that it is officially his).

What day are you coming up John? I'll prob only be up for the day so if it is a day we shoot I'll make sure to bring the appropriate hardware.

what day are YOU coming up? I have to sort out my exact schedule. Turns out Jess is graduating Firday and I'll be having issues getting there before Saturday.....

Looking at the map-

I'm coming from the north (way north). If I got off 99 just north of Kingsburg in Wineland and headed east on J40 (ave416) and took that to Boyd and thence 245, it would get me to Dry Creek just a couple hundred yards north of the Stagecoach turn off.

Despite the twisties, it *looks* like it might save some time. Anyone? Thoughts? 426 is ded straight, but goes through a couple teeny towns. Boyd and 245 look pretty empty

Looks like it would work to me, but I've never tried it.

I hope to be there Friday night, and I will go home late Saturday (I need to be back in Visalia by about 7PM Saturday).

Christof - I have driven part of that route, but not that section of 245. The valley part that I have driven was slow (lots of stops, turns, and sections of low speed limits), and I have heard that 245 is a lot of winding road. Of course, half of Dry Creek Road from 198 to the junction with Stagecoach is a lot of winding road, too.

Ahoy there mates.. I know i didnt post much for the last few months. But count me in, I shall be there on friday late morning or so.. Rain or shine actualy i would rather have it on the cool side if you ask me... Be great to see old faces and lots of new ones too..
Im also going to bring my new CZ and hope to have my new scope and rings in before the trip.. Been told its on the way to me.
