That's weird... it still shows the price at Cutlery Shoppe... hasn't changed to $0.00. But I can't see a way to "add to Cart!"

REC had some S45VN PM2s earlier today. As far as their exclusive goes, I have no idea. Hopefully it's the kind of exclusive where they can have a ton of them made. There needs to be thousands of this blade available otherwise they're going to be going for north of $300 or even $400 on the secondary market.

I have a strong suspicion that in time there will be many models in S45VN, both Spyderco and other brands.

Interesting how the CS Manix with DLC sells instantly but the satin version languished for over a month.

I always thought it was interesting that on the DLC manix 2 LWs the pivot screw and scale pins aren’t black.

Why do they still pin the FRN Manix ?!
This. I also wish it came with a deep carry wire clip like the para 3 LW. Ordered one from Spyderco and it came today. It works but rests just above the Spyderco logo so it’s not as smooth going in or out of the pocket.

People have more disposable income now?

Now?? In the time of the highest unemployment rate in US history??

I think it’s more the appeal of DLC, the Manix (regular G10) M4 model sold instantly in DLC but took over a week in satin.

CS also had a Native LW S90V that didn’t sell fast, they did eventually all go but took close to a year, same with the Endura in HAP40 (which I have 2 of).

Watching the sales forum it doesn't seem that knife enthusiasts have been severely affected. I've noticed only a few people selling knives because of lost income but the sale of exclusives has gone crazy and sales on the sales forum seem to be as brisk as ever. PM2 sprints and exclusives have been hot for a long time, a couple of years ago things seemed to have slowed down a bit but they have really taken off again and spread to Manix2 as well. Exclusives of some of the less mainstream models are not as hot and frankly I don't follow them myself. This does not bode well for future sprints/exclusives of PM2 and even Manix2, maybe even Military, unless procedures change. Even a run of 1200 is not nearly enough. Maybe retailers will catch on and order significantly more next time, otherwise they are leaving a lot of money on the table. Of course the steels used play a part of this. If someone ordered an exclusive with interesting colored scales, maybe DLC, but S30V, I don't think it would sell as well. But steels like 3V, 4V, K390 get my attention.

Someone posted on the Spyderco Forums that only a portion had been sold on the Cutlery Shoppe website, More would drop soon! Maybe that's why the price is still showing?!?

I agree.

There's a lot of steels that are must own steels for many people. Many of which are established enough in the market to support higher sales numbers.

It doesn't take people long to figure out that A11 is an analog to 10V or that Vanadis 4 Extra is an analog to to CPM-4V.

To an extent, supply creates demand.

Which steels could support being added as production like Maxamet and K390 have been? If not production, what about distributor exclusives like what was done with M390? Has there ever been a multi-dealer joint sprint run?

Websites like Bento Box Shop and Knife Center that keep sprint runs in stock should be applauded. Are there others? Should we maintain a list of them?

Edit note: fixed typo

Regarding blade steels, if you haven't seen/read it yet, you should take a look at this report prepared by BF member @Larrin who tested the "edge retention" performance of 48 different blade steels:

See: Testing the Edge Retention of 48 Knife Steels

A lot of the info in this report is very technical and, if you'd like to see my layman's summary of the gist of the report, you can find that here in the thread that @Larrin created to announce his report:

My Summary Regarding the 48 Steel Edge Retention Report

There are a couple of obvious surprises in the report that may or may not affect your interest in and/or decision to purchase knives made w/specific blade steels in the future, depending how important you consider edge retention to be in selecting a knife.
