I think Spyderco is a company that’s very into lean manufacturing. One of the primary objectives of lean manufacturing is to not keep extra stock laying around. So that may be one reason.
Another is that they do cqi’s and would have to keep all of the blades for all previous models throughout the design history. Wouldn’t be worthwhile for them in my opinion. I doubt they would keep the work holding for old designs in the shop either, so I don’t think they could easily make more.
Finally, they make knives in several different locations, so keeping stocks of all of them would be more difficult.
Benchmade, ZT and Kershaw don't keep much parts for their discontinued knives.
