Spyderco Fakes & Knock Offs Info

Hi, new to spyderco knives. After reading the all the good reviews I'd like to get a pm2. I noticed wal-mart has a good price on them. Has anyone purchased a spyderco from wal-mart. ? Would wal-mart only sell authentic products? Thanks.

Walmart does not have any PM2's Where did you get that idea?

My experience is Walmart has "REAL" Spydercos

They list it on wal-mart.com for $109.99. I just ordered one $109.99 + $8.80 tax. free shipping.

No, not if you buy from Wallmart "itself". Some knives they sell themselves and some they are just doing the listing and marketing for other companies. I only buy from Wally himself.
I see you can buy from them on the web, then pick it up at the store. Hmm.

I've bought a couple Spyderco models (Delica, Cat) from Wal-Mart and I have no reason to suspect they are not genuine.

And they don't sell knock offs?

What I would worry about with Wal-Mart is if someone returned a fake for an authentic one. This is how fakes get into an otherwise authentic stock. Since the folks at Wal-Mart are not knife experts they probably wouldn't notice. This happens at other big retailers like Amazon and cabelas. So even when buying from reputable source you still need to check for fakes.

Sot a spyderco but id be pretty pissed if i bought this quality knife

Manix 3 with vg10 steel on alienexpress. This is my first time actually going on their site to see their spydercos for sale. Unbelievable, paramilitary 2's in Orange and blue scales. This is getting out of hand, pretty startling.

I agree, this whole scenario can trigger so much mishap. Since most of those employees are not knife experts, I can see how all these counterfeits can get mixed with authentic stock, especially for Amazon. When I used to work for a sporting good store people would return or exchange fake north face backpacks that looked legitimate to the untrained eye. There are some really rotten people out there.

I recently saw a fake Vallotton Sub-Hilt folder, easy to spot a fake, the screws holding the scales on are not all countersunk the same amount and the pivot screws protrude more than the genuine knife.

I'm NOT advocating the fakes (I think its horrid) on any level, but given the accuracy of the copies in question, I'm wondering if this wouldn't be a way to get some off color scales on the cheap. I'm thinking of picking up another PM2 by the end of the year, and want to mod it. But I don't want mods that will blow my bank account out of the water.

I think they sell tons of just scales on Ali for Para2's Comes with Tools!

I would never advocate buying a fake Spyderco however, I did get my hands on one just for educational purposes ONLY. It is truly amazing and sad the lengths these people go through to copy the PM2. To the trained eye you can tell pretty quick, but it is scary that someone working at Walmart or even Cabelas may not have a clue as to the validity of the knife.
