Spyderco Fakes & Knock Offs Info

I have two Spyderco Matriarch 2's and the engravings of Spyderco and Seki-City Japan are completely different. The Spyderbug on the clips are also different. Any of them fake?

After reading this thread, I looked on ebay just for fun looking for PM2's and spotted a few fakes. I looked at the reviews and most were positive related to those knives, so this tells me a lot of people are falling for the fakes. In most cases if 10 were sold, maybe 1 person reported the knife as a fake. I should have saved the links to post here on those fakes, but I have already closed the browser and reopened so no history to go back to.

The scale cutout for the lock is sharp and not contoured (ebay item) - from that I'd say fake...

I agree, also if you click on the product details of the aliexpress knife, the ebayer is using the same images from that website or it looks like it to me anyway.

I'm gonna say FAKE. In the second pic where the blade edge meets the ricaso, there is a small cutout/gap......FAKE.

Dang, those fakers are getting better all the time! A PM is on my list of wants for my collection, but not a fake one. I'm 100% sure the online store I use 95% of the time is okay, but he is out of PMs and probably will be for some time. There are others I trust, but their prices aren't quite as nice and I'm a cheap SOB. :cool:I'm very hesitant to get one anywhere else, like eBay......even handling a PM I'm not sure I could tell the difference, but I am getting better thanks to this thread.

I think that the shortage of Paramilitaries is responsible for the current crop of fakes. Where there is demand, there will be a supply (of some sort).

The seller of that Blue scaled PM2 in the link is "2morereps", and is highly known to sell FAKES!
Beware.

Even in some of his item descriptions he writes something about blocking you from bidding if you message him to tell him it looks fake, then asks if it looks fake to you then don't bid... or some nonsense like that.

I think it's smart to send those sellers we believe to be fakes an eBay post in any event. Some might not even know there are selling a fake, and the more "questions to sellers" the intentional fakers receive, the less likely they may become to continue that nefarious activity. I have sent several eBay "questions to seller" messages to those who may or may not be trying to be fraudulent. Some have a title and photo of something like a PM, but then if you read the detailed description of the item you see it's really a Tenacious or something similar, but not even close in quality. In most cases I have received a reply as I said in my earlier post a day or two ago. Are they intentionally being dishonest? There replies say just a mistake, but you never know......but again, I think it's smart to call them on their "mistake".

Unfortunately, it's really tough for a new person, like myself, to try to find bargains with so many crooks out there! So my advice to someone starting out is to forget the bargains until you have more experience by using reputable online or store front dealers. Search the internet knife forums and you'll soon learn who those are.

I haven't been to this thread for a while. This "2morereps" fellow has fake PM2 up right now. I say we all go report it. I also emailed him asking why he is selling a fake PM2.

@sharpsooter

Do you remember when I badgered you into reading this entire thread on 12-10-2014? I don't mean to sound insensitive but even after all that you still bought a fake PM2 off ebay? If you read the whole thread the ways to avoid a fake a reiterated a bunch of times. Further, how to tell a fake is gone over in detail several times in this thread. What gives?

I posted a while back that before I got my PM2, I had never even seen one in person. I watched some You Tube and discovered some easy ways to tell the real ones. Once I got a PM2 in hand, I was able to discern, it was real just from the few differences explained in the videos. I will also admit, at the time I saw it, I really had no intention of getting it. But once I had that sucker in hand. It was over. I bought it, and have not looked back.

I also considered picking up a fake at one time, but have decided against it. I'm interested in the different color G10 handles.

The fact that some would knowingly buy a fake and resell it as real........holy crap....where do these people come from? The fact that allieexpress knows they sell the fakes, although they might not necessarily advertise it, might be just as bad, but their prices don't add the insult.

Actually I did not "buy a fake off eBay". Even after reading those techniques for determining a fake, I wasn't able to figure out if the one I ordered was a fake until I received it. Hey, I am no expert (neither was the seller), although this experience is helping me get there. But I had to do more research with the knife in hand before I suspected I had a fake. In any event, as to the "what gives" you asked, I do not plan on never ordering something off eBay just because I've received a fake once. That can happen, and in the circumstance I got mine, I don't feel like it was intentional; and I still think that fake was a friggin' great knife. I bought it for a very good price knowing the seller was not a knife dealer, but an "estate buyer". That guy was not doing the typical "bait and switch" I see nearly every day, where the title and photo for a PM2 (for instance) is actually described as something of lesser value. Once I contacted him, he immediately refunded my (PayPal) money and asked me to return the knife to him at his expense. So I do not feel like I was cheated, and I will continue to use eBay from time to time for what I feel could be a good deal. They do happen quite often.

As you do, for those who intentionally post a fraudulent ad on eBay, I notify/question, but perhaps with a bit more tact.

The whole I purchased from an estate sale/tag sale thing is just to absolve themselves from any responsibility.

Same for him so eagerly paying for the return shipping. The less time you had the knife in your hands the lower the risk the seller gets exposed.

Well, one man's opinion. Not one I share in this particular case.

I agree with this analogy. The guy is playing the odds that most people wont know the difference. If somebody does, he pays them back immediately stating how sorry he was that it happened. That way he gets fewer complaints.
He is using the old adage of "The Squeaky Wheel get's the Grease."

I did not report him yet, I did send him an email similar to yours asking him why he is selling fakes at the full price of the genuine knife. He has not responded.

It looks like he may have reversed the pictures from the aliexpress website. They are for certain the same pictures at least the ones he used for the Blue scale version of the PM2.

This is a classic excuse. So is the whole "I don't know what I have here so the price is low".

Well, one man's opinion. Not one I share in this particular case.

Make that several folks opinions :D

Yup.

The pics I saw were exactly the same as the counterfeiter's website. Also, either he pulled the listing or ebay did or it didn't sell and he has not reposted it.

This guy sells mostly counterfeit stuff like shoes or bags. He has sold 14 counterfeit knives, mostly PM2s, but there was a couple striders and a Southard. For the PM2s he gets $140-$170.

What a crook.

Indeed!

There is what I believe to be a fake "Stainless" Domino on ebay right now. Domino was never made with a steel scale/handle.
