Spyderco Mule Team Details

Just a quick update... we're working out the logistics of the actual ordering process. It is moving forward and as soon as the systems needed are in place, we'll post an announcement.

Hooray we're getting close! I'll start tucking away some funds right away. Perhaps you may have some new pictures to entice us with...Please:)

Still waiting eagerly for these guys to come out! Are there any images available yet? I'm just wondering what the thing will look like, so I can figure out who I want to make the sheath.

Looking forward to it! :)

Thanks, but I was hoping for a pic of the production knife. Things may have changed since the prototypes were worked up.

Thanks for the link, Th232! I think a little kydex job with small tek-lok is the way to go with this one. The mule's too "spacey" looking to go well in a leather rig. In kydex, it'll be a nice, flat package. I just got a little kydex number from Tom Krein for one of my Game Wardens, and it's a work of art!

Happy to see this apparently coming to fruition. I was considering giving up and ordering a Fallkniven blank. Also happy that the intention is to keep the price closer to $50 than $100. That will mostly determine the number of blades I order in the series.

Will be interesting to see if enterprising individuals offer sheaths, handles, and whatnot once the actual production is in hand. Godspeed!

I sent an e-mail. Hope I'm able to be part of the project. I know a knife maker in Seki city who may be willing to work up same handle scales for me...

I am really looking forward to the MT. I think they did a great job making it a very simple skeleton model and concentrating on the blade. I have a Streder ED and SwampRat SwampWarden and they are both skeleton handled knives and quite similar to the MT.
The Warden is even 52100 as well, one of my favourite steels ever. I was planning a comparison of the Strider versus the Rat but would love to throw the spydie into the mix.

I noticed there was a hole in the blade. I guess it is a clever way to brand the knife without spending the cash on a label.

Mega dittoes to what kgriggs8 said. I dare anyone to say they carry/use a fixed blade more often than a folder. Count me out unless this changes to an interchangeable blade folder.

I used a fixed blade maybe TWICE last year. I used a folder every single day.

Ok... I carry/use a fixed blade more often than a folder.

How's that?

Now, i do have lots of folders, Spydyco's included (THANKS SAL!) and i even have some folders i made myself which are better functioning and sure-locking than any folder out on the market made of S30V and 6-4 Ti, which, are also Sal inspeiered (as well as Rex Applegate inspeiered... THANKS SAL, THANKS REX!). And, one is virtually the exact same same size, shape, and balance, and is even MUCH lighter than this fixed blade i carry... BUT, i have come to like this fixed blade version so much that i now carry it instead and have put away all of my folders!

Why?

Well... it's simply better. Faster... (Although, not faster or easier to put away...ok, 2 trade-offs...) Faster to get out and use. Nothing in the way of my hand when i put my hand in my pocket... or take my hand out. Nothing to get in the way of anything in my pocket. Stronger. It is simply not going to fold up on me, period. (BTW, the locks on the folders i made have NEVER even once failed... which i can't say about any of the other folders i own, except maybe my Applegate Covert Folder.) Easier to keep clean and maintain... wipe off the blade, put it away. Solid. .170 thick blade and .10 G10 scales... hey, it's a fixed blade, it just doesn't get much more solid. 3 inch S30V blade, 3.5 inch handle, VERY ergonomic. VERY capable... it could dress an elk... no problem. Sheath? Kydex, polycarbonate, AGrip lining, stainless fasteners all around... solid. Solid package. It just has a certain "comfort" in use.

Maybe if i ever get the folders into production i will switch back to carrying one of them. But, for now the hand made folders are retired as they are just way too precious to lose and way too difficult to replace. I carried each of them for a long time each and each proved itself well. So, nothing more to prove there.

Don't get me wrong... i like and would carry a folder, or two, but which one??? Which one??? I feel like a kid in a candy store when it comes to knives. I could go on and on... Knives are cooooool....

Hey, you dared me! :D
