Spyderco Mule Team Details

I'm confused now - have orders already been made? When did that happen? Are these now going to be produced before orders are taken?

I missed something, methinks...

(I thought we had to order before the knives were manfactured so Sal would know about how many to make...Apparently I'm probably wrong, but does anyone know for sure?)

Good question. I called the SFO and got the run-around, promised me a call back, but haven't heard yet. I've been signed up from the beginning, but now am pretty much writing this off.

We're working on final details, please be patient. They should be available shortly.

.....but now am pretty much writing this off.

That's a little extreme. If Spyderco said that they were going to make them, they will. This is a busy time of year and things can get delayed.

I'm sure that there will be an announcement when the Mules are ready.

Is there still time to get in on this fantastic idea ??

I hope so.... I have been away a long while and just heard about it.

Please let me know. Also what to do ......

Thank you,

What exactly do we have to do in order to purchase a Mule team knife?
Will it be in the catalogue? My concern is not that it won't be out soon enough but that it will come out and I will miss out because I have no idea where it is going to be posted or what I have to do to go about getting one?

I have been anxiously checking this and the official spyderco forum hoping I have not missed out somehow. I would feel a LOT better (as would many others) if there was going to be some kind of sticky announcing when and where to put in our orders?

I read a post on the other forum where Sal mentioned that the first half of the 52100's were already in inventory? All we want is to find out where to go to check for official news about when and how the mule team knives are being distributed. I hate the idea of checking the wrong places and missing out.

How we go about making payments is another question that would be nice to have answered?

So the big question is

WHERE DO WE LOOK FOR OFFICIAL NOTICE ABOUT THE MULE TEAM RELEASE?

Thanks on behalf of myself and everyone else who is terrified of missing out on something this cool.

Hi Unsub,

As I understand the program, the knives will be available only through SFO. They will be announced on the two forum locations. One price for all and a limit on how many one can buy.

The first run is 52100 hi-carbon ball bearing steal. I believe we made about 600 to test the project. Sales of the first run will tell us if there is enough interest to continue making future runs and if so, how many per run.

They are being engraved at this time. We would hope to sell them all within a month or so after announcement.

Thanks Sal.

Now for a stupider question ,what is SFO? I am going to take a educated guess and say the S stands for Spyderco.

They do have a hole in the blade. It is a great and easy trademark.

I can't wait. I like the purchase limit even though I would buy a lot of them. The point is to get them into a lot of hands to try out the blade not to sit in some collectors safe.

I plan to test them against 2 similar knives ,the Strider ED(S30V) and the Swamp Rat Skelly warden which is also 52100. Other than testing against other spydies ,hopefully with similar geometry what other knives would be good mule testers?

Are members of your collector's club going to have any knives set aside or them?

I've tried emailing the Mule team a few times in the last 6 months with no success, or at least no replies. Are we going to start seeing these blades anytime soon?

The Mule Team knives are availble for sale now on the Spyderco website :)

Check it out ;) Here is some info below if you have questions about them.

What is the Spyderco Mule Team?

Spyderco’s Mule Team officially launches with a single-piece fixed blade pattern. The blade is leaf-shaped with a sharpened and finished PlainEdge blade but with an unfinished handle providing some a do-it-yourself opportunity. The unfinished handle has a series of holes for attaching a custom handle or for wrapping in cord. All Mule Team Pieces are sold without handle scales or a carry sheath focusing the project on the blade steel and opening the door for the owner to create his/her own handle scale and carry options.

How many and how often will they be released?

Our plan is to release several variations per year using the same fixed blade pattern produced with different exotic steels. Each steel offering is limited to approximately 600 pieces and engraved indicating the steel used. Variations are priced accordingly with the only cost variable being the steel itself. Prices will be announced prior to the release of the upcoming model.

How can I buy them?

All purchases are handled through Spyderco Factory Outlet (SFO).

I don't know if this is a common problem, but it is telling me there is an international shipping charge to USA, and its $50. Is this correct?

**Sorry, I just figured it out. I added a country into my profile, and it appears I shouldn't have. Its all good now. **

I can't wait to try this Mule.

So did all 600 of them actually sell already or what? I'd love to get my hands on one of these and I've been watching out for the release announcement, but the announcement came today and it already says they're out of stock.
