Ok guys!!!!---I'm going to the Texas Gulf coast next week for some reds and specs ! Was just gonna take my endura and maybe a stretch but bit the bullet after reading all this and ordered a Pacific salt!!!! I as a general rule don't like SEs but will try the salt out! I envy you getting in all that fishing at Costa Rica gringo!!! I spent some time there in Jan. And it's a really neat place,,,, my son goes down about 3 times a year for work and loves it also! If I lived at the coast still I would have one of those Hobies!!!!!--- used to have a Hobie surf board when I wasn't 700 miles from the salt water!!!

Yes sir, keep an open mind and give that serrated edge a try and it might surprise you. Give it regular quick touchups on the sharpmaker and keep it razor sharp you will be amazed how well it works for you.

Will do Gringo ! I will take my sharp maker to it soon as I get it with the ultra fine sticks ,,,, always refine my factory edges! ,,,,to ultra sharp! And touch it up regular like I'll take the others for back up but will give the salt a workout and report back!

My Pacific came in today!!!ran it lightly over the ultra fine stones on the sharp maker then stropped each seration with the edge of a piece of leather with compound on it and it tree tops !!!!never knew you could get them like that? It came sharper than any knife I have ever gotten and that's a bunch! So far really liking this Pacific salt!

i deal with knives in Singapore and a friend brought in his caspian that has been put to good used for the past 4 years in countless diving trip. it look really used but with some brown stain, people was asking if H1 will rust? one of my friend did share my photo at spyderco forum too.

I think that H1 can take a really fine edge. If I ever had to shave with a Spyderco it would be with my Atlantic Salt. A hollow ground straight plain edge blade in H1 is pretty much literally a razor.

It's really amazing how sharp se h1 will get isn't it? I just spent a couple of minutes bringing my pacific salt back to "tree topping" sharp and man is that one nasty edge!! I think some folks look at se knives differently than others. Some look at it as a way to use a knife past the point of being too dull and still being able to cut with it. I think that's why you occasionally hear comments like "I don't like serrated edges because they tear instead of cut". That's only if you let them get dull. If you give them the same basic maintenance you give your pe knives and keep them razor sharp then they are extremely efficient cutting tools.

Edit: The ability to continue cutting with a serrated edge even after it is dull is a perfectly valid reason for liking them, it's just not my reason for liking them.

Very well put Gringo!!! I never had a fully serrated edge and or looked at them in that regard,I see your point now! I still think combo edges are maybe not the way to go as you get just some of each type??? Anyway,, thanks for the great thread and pics!

I'm looking for a black Spyderco Aqua Salt, if anyone wants to sell theirs :) Send me a message with pics and price. Thanks.

about a month ago I see this guy 'speared'? a fish near the coast. it is cool! the fish spear is called "Kalawai" here.

sorry, no salt pics ! :p

A Pacific Salt will come in the mail tomorrow and is then off to Japan. My nephew is a marine there and has been snorkeling and starting to spear fish, so this is his Christmas present.

Good choice. I carry a Caspian or SE Pacific when diving and spearfishing:D

When he gets addicted he can start buying fins like these ;)
