Great pics Gringo!

I saw "all things salt" in the thread title and it reminded of this pic. Yes, that really is salt.

Hello to all, New to this "site". I basically a Saltwater Fisherman with a knife problem. I'm also a spyderco guy. I have not picked up my Christmas knife yet (a little tradition I started). I do own/use a USN Catcherman (in addition to a pile of dexter russell knifes that are common in the marine fishing community). So my fast question is for cutting fish what is the favored salt (Atlantic or Pacific?) and plain edge versus serrated. I don't envision the spyderedge being great for filleting. Most of my fillets end up skinless so I would still use a big dexter for skinning cores.

I have a south fork on my "have to get list" but would like some more comments on that knife as well.

Merry Christmas

Jack

Hey Jack. For my uses it is Pacific Salt all the way. I always prefer using the spyderedge in the salt knives too. Because of the way the steel is hardened, serrated h1 has far superior edge retention to plain edge. As far as using the knife to do fillet work, I can certainly testify that it's possible. I have filleted MANY a mackerel with my reground pacific salt, and even an occasional small snapper or barracuda. It is obviously not the ideal tool for that job but it is perfectly functional for removing fillets in a pinch. The Southfork is one of my favorite fish cleaning knives. I actually do more fillet removal with the SF than I do with my large fillet knife but I still use the big boy for skin removal. Anyway, I think you will really enjoy the Pacific Salt for a great all around fishing knife!

Playing around with the pacific salt today on some mackerel. Not the worlds best fillet knife but it can do the job in a pinch.

Just modified my Assist Salt to make it into a wharnie. Ive been using a modified Atlantic salt for awhile and really like it so I thought I would try it with the assist. I converted the nub at the end to an extra 1/8" of pe at the tip.

The one and only Spyderco I own is a Salt I. It is my knife of choice whenever I go to the beach or go kayaking. I live on the US gulf coast so I tend to go to the beach often, and now that I've been introduced to kayaking, I try to go as often as I can convince my friend to take me.

A converted Salt fan here. Nice mod on that tip, Gringo!

This has been one of the threads that made me jump the fence.

After my first Pacific, a second one came soon...

then a Salt I, and the little Dragonfly to wear on pajamas and in the coin pocket,

then a Spyderhawk got me hooked,

and now the newcomer is the Jumpmaster.

I'm waiting on the Fish Hunter, Jumpmaster 2 and Caribbean to come. It's been a long journey, with a promising future yet to come, and I honestly thank you Spyderco and Surfingringo for starting me on this discovery tour that the Salt series has been to me.
They're unique, awesome value blades that have no rival in the role they play, and the utility they offer. The new LC200N seems so exciting, I can't wait! How will it outperform and improve over H1? Who knows, but I'm staying here to see :D

Have a nice day!
