we really should have a picture here, for reference
... personally I wouldn't even pay half the msrp for this (the gb2 is my spdy grail and I don't see that changing anytime soon)
also, look at how ridiculous it is closed... honestly I wouldn't even be interested at 1/4 msrp

It’s expensive and I personally don’t find such design attractive but some will like it and will pay the $$ for it,
I don’t see anything wrong with Spydercos price tag, they are trying.
‘However, I find funny and odd to name your model “Failure to eject”… 🤣
Modeled after the cleaver in Gangs of New York of Bill the Butcher and named for his hat, but yeah, unfortunate coincidence

A knife so ugly it could be a modern art masterpiece.

Expensive Spyderco models? The Inflation XL..... oh wait! Not a Spyderco knife, but if may have something to do with pricing, eh?

I'm having sticker shock every time I go to the freaking grocery store! Items that were 99 cents are now $1.79?!? I remember about a year ago when the price of one item we buy regularly jumped up to $4.99 and I thought - wow! Now it's $6.29. And I am not shopping at Whole Foods or any "premium" grocers, these are the regular chain grocery stores we shop at. If we were willing to do all our grocery shopping at Wally World, it would be a little cheaper, maybe, but not much.

If the design doesn’t appeal to you, that’s fine.
I’m not saying the Stovepipe is near the top of my WTB list, but I’m glad it exists (or will exist shortly)

The fact that Spyderco brings eclectic designs to life knowing it might have limited appeal is one of the things that makes them Spyderco. Look through their historical catalogue; there’s plenty that fits into the category. The knife world is better because of it.

IMO Spyderco is capable of putting out knives that fit into the $400 price range and, aesthetics aside, I won’t pre-judge whether or not the knife can hold it’s own in the segment based on fit/finish/quality/etc.

The argument that follow-on support and service doesn’t measure up to the segment is probably valid, IMO, and is one of the reasons I haven’t picked up a Drunken (and others at the top-end).

One of the problems is that in Europe the importer uses the MSRP but in Euro. That means this knife costs 600€ or 678,99 USD in Europe! Sal might not want to undercut his dealers but apparently isn't interrested in selling knives in Europe. This same principle applies to his "dealer exclusives". They don't offer shipping out of the USA, so they are only available on the secondary market at elevated prices. I have the distinct feeling that this was not what Sal envisioned when he started Spyderco. It looks like Spyderco jumped on the exclusivity bandwagon. In stead of sellling a lot of affordable honest priced working class knives they are now trying to become an expensive elite manufacturer. They are pushing away their loyal customer base by this move. Imho.

An expensive, elite manufacturer? Really? It seems like to me that Spyderco offers an incredible range of prices, styles and offerings - all of which are quality.

Have you ever tried the Byrd line? They make some really solid knives at very reasonable prices! I have a friend who is on a budget, and he was really upset when he lost his PM2 while hunting - especially since he didn't have it in budget to replace it. Now he carries a Byrd Cara Cara 2 G10, and he is really happy with it. Calls it his "poor man's PM2".

I have over 60 Spyderco and Byrd models. Started using them in 1986. Carried a Spyderco since then. Like 24/7. In the line of fire as an armed professional until 2007. I know a thing or two about the history of Spyderco. Did you know Spyderco invented the Byrd model because they wanted to produce knives in China but didn't want to mix the chinese models with Spyderco models made in the US and Taiwan or Seki? So Sal used the comet hole so the customers would see the difference. There was a lot of uproar in this forum and the Spyderco forum and a lot of forumites thought it was a bad idea. Now Spyderco makes round hole Spyderco models in China as well. Not dissing Chinese manufacturing or Byrd. Just saying that a lot has changed in my opinion. Not bashing Spyderco persé. I just think Eric took over Sal's job and Eric has a different management and long term goal and view about Spyderco. From user knives for cops, firefighters and fishermen to a 600 USD knife. My most expensive Spyderco was the WTC knife but not as an investment or an object d'art. I bought it because the procedings went to the family my fallen collegues in NYC. I just want to be able to buy a Spyderco knife as a tool and not spend 25% of my pay on a pocket knife. And yes there are cheaper versions and the byrd line as well. But when i have to wait for months to buy a standard model because they are out of stock while Golden is pumping out flashy PM's to knife retailers in the USA that get bought up by "investors and knife flippers" i get a little frustrated. I realise i'm a nobody in the eyes of Spyderco and they seem to have a different business model in regards to the past. But getting a catalog and realising that a lot of blades are nearly unaffordable to average joe makes me sad. I'm entitled to these feelings. I might be an old timer or a grumpy old man. But every catalogue and every reveal i realise that Spyderco and their loyal bread and butter customers are growing apart.

I have many Spyderco knives, but that price is ridiculous. Their warranty also stinks. I give ZT a lot of flak for some garbage designs lately but at least their warranty is spot on.

I was wondering, because I jumped into Spyderco ready to buy a Military... no go. Police? No go. Civilian? Just sold out. I lucked out and got a Paramilitary2 in S45VN, which is a great worker, as well as a waved Matriarch 2, and at least the PM2 is pretty available for professionals to use, as well as the rescue tools which are great imo with the serrated blades except for the "tip", which is plain edge. But, I don't really know what I am talking about, truly, I know there are a lot of "original" models that are pretty unavailable and way too many speed runs. I imagine this isn't great for our professionals.

I was knocking around the idea of a Centofante 3 slicer.

It does suck if the direction they are going in is purely like this, with these weirdo cleaver knives every company is releasing and the flash batches. Out of curiosity, since you are an old school Spyderco buyer, what was the original steel used in the Police and things like that?

Ah, 1986, the glory days of collecting Spyderco. When you had all six you could put your feet up. Good times!

They all kinda looked the same with the stainless steel handles but let's not get all bogged down with facts.
