Spyderco Tenacious not so popular?

Nothing bad?

Well, its a linerlock knife - so watch them fingers. The cut-out to disengage the lock is too big, making the lock easily inadvertently disengaged.

The 8CR13MOV steel isn't the "cat's meow" as far as steels go. Good for sharpening practice.

The big hole in the blade is a weak spot where the blade will probably snap off.

As for being the "golden boy", hardly. Its a $40 dollar knife that performs as well as a $40 will. Nothing special. You can do worse, but for a few bucks more you can do better. Same can be said for a number of knives.

I didn't say that the knife was perfect, I said that I PERSONALLY had never SEEN anything bad posted about it on BladeForums. Then you go and say a bunch of "bad" things about it. Wow, you sure proved me wrong

Find a negative review of the knife on BladeForums. Find a "recommend a knife under $50" thread where it wasn't the #1 suggestion by a landslide.

Head over to YouTube and see what people are saying about the Tenacious.

Trust me, you are alone on this one.

Well, you wanted some "bad" things, you got them. There a negitives in just about everything and apparently no one had pointed these out sufficiently.

"Find a negative review of the knife on BladeForums. Find a "recommend a knife under $50" thread where it wasn't the #1 suggestion by a landslide." And.... Simply because there are more fans of Spyderco products on this forum has little weight as to a design's superiority. Its akin to saying Cold steel products are junk because a group of frothing maniacs go on the usual tirade against the company.

Go back a few years and it looked like everone was recommending the EDC, a product still offered I think. The Tenacious is still "riding the wave" of introduction. Next year, it'll be some other model.

I like this knife a lot, for a sub $40 folder it performs very well. The steel gets really sharp and, while it won't hold an edge forever, is easy to sharpen. It also seems very strong to me, but if you are looking to baton through a tree, cut through plastic drums and do other things a folder wasn't designed to do, prepare to have it ruined. I once heard of someone who did something silly like this to a much more expensive folder when he should have used a sturdy fixed blade, and it broke..

I think the reason you don't see them in the exchange is because people generally think they will get more use out of them than $ for $ trade value. In essence, its so cheap that trading for one would surely give you less than just buying it.

Gee, only one Spyderco hole knife, out of hundreds of thousands, had a problem? Sounds horrible? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Tell me Spyderco didn't pay you to say that!
Thanks for the review, though. LOLOLOLOL.

I don't really like the fact that it comes from China. I'd pay a premium for an U.S or Japan made Spidie without breaking a sweat.

If you got money sure buy more expensive models. if you don't have money or you don't have political or personal agenda or opinions from China, Tenacious is good, very good. However habbits die hard. Its been long a general rule that all cheap crap comes from China... And some just hate red china...

Tenacious offers great value. But if you don't want made in China knife, then Spyderco Delica's is quite good choice as its far less expensive than Para-military, Military and other models while offering good quality and value and is not China knife with Tenacious and Byrd-series.

Manix 2 is another good Non-china knife with excellent value.

Just to side note I happend to love my Spyderco Tenacious. Its my favourite and best folder. When I get my small Spyderco Ladybug 3 H1 for EDC urban we'll see then.

I love my tenacious. I edc it all the time and have never had the liner lock fail or break at the hole. I don't see how someone can give a bad review of a knife when he doesn't even own a tenacious nor can he provide proof that any of the "negatives" actually occurred.

This seems to happen around here quite frequently! :)

It's not the best EDC for under $50 and doesn't win by a landslide. Just because some people like it doesn't make it the best. More people own Ginsu and Miracle Blades than people own Shuns, does that make Ginsus and Miracle Blades better? No. The Shuns are far superior, just not as popular.
For under $50, I think the RAM with HAWK lock, USA made, and 14C28N is much better.
Popularity and superiority are different aspects. But that just goes with the whole "If your friends jumped off a bridge..."
Nothing against the Tenacious, I just believe there's better options out there in it's category, but they don't have Spyder Holes so they might not be what you want.

Once again; I did not say that it is the best edc under $50, I said that whenever somebody makes one of those threads, the Tenacious gets the most votes.

Please take note of the title of this thread, popularity is exactly what we are talking about!

And I don't know where you shop but please let me know where I can get a RAM for under $50.

Kershawguy has blems for $40.00 shipped, and at one point he had regular models for about $50.00 a while ago.
You said to look at YouTube and hear what prople have to say. Those people say it's great, but people also have better recommendations for the magic $50 mark. Just because some people say it's good doesn't make it good. The tenacious is nice, but there are nicer options.

By all means, posts some of these nicer options. That we can actually see are under $50, not "about $50".

But again, my original post was not defending the knife, I don't even have one. I was just saying that to think it is unpopular on BladeForums is WAY off. It is extremely popular, deserved or not.

i love the tenacious ... great beater knife gets dull fast but can get it sharp again on cardboard at work.. try that with any super steel haha...love my ram too but that was like 90 bucks at the local knife shop ... delica all the way for low price knife and with spyderedge it never seems to get dull!!!!!

Od-1, Skyline, Leek, Blur are all $50 or below (shop around) and all made in USA. RAM, apparently $50 shipped doesn't qualify for the $50 and under price point?
Check the FS forums, even more options, take a look for yourself and tell me.

Once again, those are better for my uses for $50, I think the materials and USA made makes them a better value.

Tenacious is one of the best bangs for your buck in the knife world. This coming from a guy who never tires of extolling the virtues of Opinels. Tenacious excels at many tasks; slicing carboard, whittling, kitchen work even skinning. Holds an edge well (don't start steel snobs-my other EDC is D2) doesn't break the bank to buy and doesn't break your heart to lose. WINNER!

I think the Tenacious is great, but the Persistence is even better. The smaller size makes it perfect for EDC.

But again, my original post was not defending the knife, I don't even have one.

I don't see how you can make an opinion if you don't even have one.
Are you just using other people's opinions for your statements?

This is your quote about the Tenacious from another thread.
The materials are not of the same quality, but I would say that the fit and finish is definitely on par.

How do you know F&F is on par?
