Spyderco Tenacious not so popular?

saying people with certain opinions are the reason for WWII is highly offensive so maybe you should show a little respect also.

Would it be too dis-respectful if I called you a moron? Probably, So I will just say that you sir, are just plain ignorant. A polite non-offensive term for "you dont know what the %$*^ you're talking about". Cheers.

Perhaps Tenacious is more popular outside U.S. where general knife prices are higher. However I would piss honey if I would get Spyderco native for $40. Unfortunately its closer $100 in here with current rates of money. Most Spyderco model's in here are in $90-$200 range, which makes Tenacious a lot more afforable it in here, than it might be in the states.

The states lack many taxes European's pay so generally they get knives cheaper. Heck I would love to get Buck or American mande spyderco's or RAT cutlery's knives at the prices american have them. Instead I have to pay 20%-60% more Natively or if I import such knives from the states, shipping + toll feeds would kill me... $20-$50 shipping and after that ridicioules toll price...

Sorry for long winded rant. But IMHO Tenacious popularity depends what generally knives prices are. In the states, tenacious is nothing special, its good deal but in the states there are alot as good or better deals from Made in USA knives. In here... There's not, which increases Tenacious value tremendously.

Thanks and don't hate me for my opinions ^^ Just hate me for my actions ^^

If you are unable to follow the simple rules and guidelines of this knife discussion forum it is time for you to leave or take your politics where it belongs.

How many times do we have to get the point across before it sinks in.

Yesterday I was checking Amazon.com knives section and currently the Tenacious is the best selling among Spyderco knives.

I know knife nuts like us don't buy at amazon but amazon is a good indicator of NKP trends so it seems the tenacious is very popular among NKP.

...Back from the post office, and here it is!

It feels good, looks good, shaves, no play. In a week or so I'll know if it's a keeper.

That was quite a plunge. I've never had a good sized liner lock before. I've been trying to avoid them. I'll risk it, 'cause it's a Spydie. :o

Love your photography! Do you have more pics to share? Also what you think now that you have used it?

Thanks

Nothing bad?

Well, its a linerlock knife - so watch them fingers. The cut-out to disengage the lock is too big, making the lock easily inadvertently disengaged.

The 8CR13MOV steel isn't the "cat's meow" as far as steels go. Good for sharpening practice.

The big hole in the blade is a weak spot where the blade will probably snap off.

As for being the "golden boy", hardly. Its a $40 dollar knife that performs as well as a $40 will. Nothing special. You can do worse, but for a few bucks more you can do better. Same can be said for a number of knives.

Yea, knives are stupid right? That is a lot of smearing to read through. Maybe a recommendation for a better value?

I just got back from the local knife shop. I fingered through about 50 blades today in all price ranges and styles and ended up on this knife. It is a steal compared to others in the $40 range to me. Very solid drop pt pattern.

Why do women think they always have to have the last word? :D I already apologized, so can't we now just be friends again?

Since this forum is probably comprised of 95% males, and threads like this go on for pages and pages by people who just can't leave well enough alone, I find this remark to be a bit offensive, sexist and inaccurate, but whatever.

As to the subject at hand, I think the Tenacious is a wildly popular knife. I bought one when they first came out and think that it was 35.00 well spent. I do not carry the knife much as I just am not too wild about liner locks but am/was very impressed with the quality vs price.

The knife opens smoother than some of my higher price Spyderco knives. It locks up with a loud thwack and is a very solid folder. It's open construction is great for cleaning. The flat ground blade was a great surprise on a knife in this price range.

It pretty much has all the bells and whistles of knives running in the 100+ range. While I just can't warm up to liner locks in general, everytime I take the knife out of the box I am amazed at how well the knife is made.

Realizing that this would drive the price up, I would never let it out of my pocket if it had a ball lock or comression lock on it.

I have a Tenacious for close to a year now. I'm super comfy with that liner lock.
I have a Native III & Native in S30V. I’m comfy with them both. Love em in fact.
I have Byrd Knives, Like them to. Don't carry them.

They are all good and fit the needs of different people.
My need is to stop buying all these knives that fit my same needs. :)

Speaking of which,I just picket up the best deals for me of the year
2 – Blur’s Black Blem. $36 ea. 1- Native III 2 day sale $38.
Their not high value production knives or that hidden treasure custom ya find at a gun show but this blue collar guy is happy with what he's got.

I win.

Give this fella a prize!!

That sums up everything i would've said.

made in the usa don't mean shit to me.( from Oz)

QC means way more.

not baggin' you Yanks at all but, well made, is well made.

Fit,finish,function.

What letters are stamped on the blade means little to me.

Having said that, supporting your country, and local workforce deserves kudos

hell, i just like knives!

Knives are objects and do not actively think. Therefore, knives cannot be "stupid", but people sure can be.

As seen in the thread, I indicated to the affect that the list is simply pointing out attributes that some may consider "negatives". A knife is a sum of constituent elements and there are negatives with any design, either material or physical. What "smearing"?

I pointed out some negatives to counteract the apparent fawning. Someone pointed out that they had not read any negatives, so I gave them some to discuss.

"Better value"? Define "value". "Value" has different meanings.

If "value" is based upon length of time of actual use per dollar expended, my various M2 knives win (710 and mini-Grip most prominently).

My "better value" suggestion is to save up a bit, to the $100 range, and look at any of the plethora of knives you will likely still be carrying in a few years.

Some two weeks later I return to my thread to find conversations not even having to to with the topic. I forgot this thread even exists and I just saw it pop up on general. :/

So, did you buy one of these knives or choose another?

If you bought, what are your impressions and if you chose not to buy one, did you buy something else and why?

Those are quite the assumptions.

The Tenacious could eventually surpass your M2 knives in "length of time of actual use per dollar expended".

And there is no reason to believe that people won't still be carrying one in a few years.

Nothing wrong with amazon, just that usually it does not have the best prices and selection in knives.

But as I said Amazon sales ranks are a good indicator of a knife's popularity.

Could, would, should,... - Nope, the knife model has little interest to me. Looked at one, thought it was well crafted, but it fills no void in my collection nor does it offer anything unique.

What assumption? That people won't carry one over the years?

I can't count the number of good to great knives that have I carried for a time, but were set aside for one reason or another. People seem to try many knife designs over time, but few people carry a given knife, or set of knives, over the the years.

Peoples' tastes change over time and I don't see the Tenacious design as having enough "passion" or superior qualities to have staying power.

I'm already down to less than $16 per year for the 710Hs I carry regularly.

A Tenacious owner will need about 2.5 years just to meet that.

So, in 2.5 years, write a long term use review for us on how the Tenacious has held up.

Yup, that assumption. ;)
