Was already intrigued by the Enlan EL01, and then I saw this...

Oh, wow, a Rosewood version! The EL01D. Ordered, along with a "regular" EL01!

I'd like to say thanks to everyone at this forum that gave me to opportunity to learn about Enlan. I have no problems per se with (quality) Chinese-made products, but considering the vast amount of inferior products that do come from China, I would not have ever considered Enlan knives without the numerous reviews & recommendations here. :encouragement:

I ordered a pair of wood-handled Enlan M027s. Nice looking and feel good in the hand. The linerlock design is reminiscent of a smaller framelock Boker Pipsqueak.

But the Pipsqueak is s-m-o-o-t-h! (As it should be for the price!)

Sadly, both of my M-027s feel like they use crappy, thin washers. Feels like molasses when you open and close them. I've adjusted the pivot screw -- thankfully, you can do that with these, unlike some other Enlans. But that just sends the blade to one side without helping the rough feel.

Pity. Outside, the visible f&f looks pretty good.

I've had crappy Chinese knives before, hence my ambivlance about buying them. But these are my first crappy Enlans. Wish I had better news to report.

Perhaps dismantle it, clean & polish?

Yes, well, that would be my first full dismantling and who knows what I would find.

That's my problem in a nutshell with those imports that arrive with problems: no support and you sometimes to have to build your own tool just to adjust a pivot.

Hence my ambivalence about these extremely well-priced value knives.

I'll be filing a review of one import that is arguably one of the best I've seen -- except that the lock broke on the day it arrived.

Meanwhile, if you know of someone who would like to take a look at this Enlan for possible repairs, please pm me.

Flash900,

The mollasses feeling is likely caused by the grease these companies use. Rather than dismantling, try flushing it out with WD40 alternating with washing with hot water + soap. Opening & closing repeatedly will help. I have all of my knives broken in like this.

The spare EL02 and Navy k631 I have are nowhere as smooth as the EDC ones, and the differences is so much you won't believe they are actually same.

Interesting diagnosis, doctor. That did help some -- thanks!

I wonder if it will rust from the hot water.

I'll keep working on it. Still feels like crappy, thin washers.

It's observation coming from having gone through many Sanrenmus, few Enlans and one Navy :D

After flushing out the grease, and dried completely, apply your favorite lube.;)
Usually it takes 3 - 4 cycles of this treatment with many flicking open/close as new knife being explored :P

Caution: don't lube the mating surface of the lock-blade tang.

The Enlan's washers still feel crappy but opening and closing is MUCH improved.

An excellent tip -- thanks again!

You're most welcome!

Black tape on clip to be mire discreet, added lanyard for better grip when pulling out, zip tie mod and both wave well!

just got the ganzo 710. wow. what a great knife. solid lock up, dead center blade, razor sharp, and closes as smooth as my benchmades. 20$. its a steal.

Anyone have any opinions on the blade coating on the Enlan EL-06PF? I'm debating getting the plain version or the camo/coated version. I already have the EL-02B and I think the EL-06 plain is just too similar, not much point in getting both.

These Enlan series (EL-01, El-02, El-03, El-04, El-06) are the best of all the Chinese knives I've seen in the EDC size category. Much better than the Bee/Navy/Ganzo knives in terms of quality control from what I've seen. SRM's are great also but tend to run small.

My only gripe on the EL-02 is the axis lock is incredibly stiff, I may have to disassemble the knife and try to bend the springs so they're not quite so stiff. Also I wish Enlan would make the El-02 or El-06 in a variety of G10 colors with stonewashed blades, I'm sure orange would sell like hot cakes.

The stiffness will go away after many open / close using axis pull. Your finger will get sore first though. Mine is now as smooth as srm763 that I also EDC. You might want to sand down a bit on the axis buttons that are sharp at the edges.

On coated blade, not much I can comment, they usually harder to get sharp and I gave / sold them away. Only kept one black srm710, managed to get it sharp. But it is a backup, so not seeing much use, not sure how the coating will hold up.

Some readings on the forum suggest that coating process might soften the blade if not done correctly. I found 2 out of 3 black blades (all SRM) are like that, but it is also possible I haven't sharpened them enough to remove 'burnt' edges that sometimes happens when factory sends them out (they use power tools).

Not wanting to scratch the coating more than just the edges during sharpening also contributes to ease of sharpening (my own technique issue).
So I tend to stay away from coated blade. The 710 mentioned is kept as backup and won't see much use ;).

Here are some pics for comparing them (EL02B vs. EL06).

Here's my modified Enlan Bee L-04 :-)
Stonewashed, ground the flipper off, convexed and polished edge, G10 Scales.
