Well , I come from China too and agree with that SRM ( or Land) is the best manufactor. Maybe Bee or Enlan is second but it is far behind SRM.

Others ,like Navy ,Y-start, Leen are crappy . Yes ,MAYBE the finish is better than some Chinese Cheapos but they are always mixture "heavy weight" with "heavy duty" and steal core elements from foreigh productions and customs all the time. They DONOT know what is needed for a folder ,and designs of fixed blade of these manufctors are always copies or jokes.

My Y-Start fixed blade doesn't seem a copy or a joke for me:

Interesting observation.

Received my Cold Steel XL Voyager Tanto today. Except for minor flat spot at the secondary tip, it is perfect out of the box. It's sharper than the Resilience out of the box.

For those curious about size:

The pivots are more or less aligned to the tile's to give better sense of size.

Edit to add
Sorry, not to hijack the thread, I'm still looking at these knives as excellent bang for the buck. Just recently got myself 'branded' ones (had a Voyager long time back, the older series).

Vortex and others have been helpful with info, so I could make up my mind :p

That Voyager Tanto looks really cool! How does it perform in every day cutting tasks compared to your FFG blades?

Just tested a bit, as it is so large, can't really EDC it. Slicing the same pizza box I usually do, it started very nice but losing the 'bite' sooner than expected. I thought the AUS8 will hold it similar to the Chinese steel, but it didn't. I wasn't able to finish the last panel of the box (supporting hand tired holding the cardboard). This is with factory edge.

Other than the edge losing bite, can't tell yet how it performs compared to FFG. I guess the balance & weight in hand also plays to make equal testing difficult :( Even with the agressive texture, the handle is one of most comfortable to hold, despite I have small-medium hand, due to the shape.

Back to thread topic and to answer the question, I guess comparing EL01 and EL02 is a better choice, as overall profile is similar except for the grind. During use, I recalled, EL02 feels better, might be due to thickness behind the edge.

Note: the grip and balance will 'alter' the perceived smoothness.

However, Navy k631 and Resilience are even better respectively, perhaps due to thinner FFG (3mm compared to 3.4? on Enlan). To make it more confusing, the best slicer is the SRM763

So I can only say each knife is unique combination of blade geometry, steel, handle/grip and balance/weight that making direct comparison very difficult. That's where project mule by Spyderco should help, or those lucky guys having variants of Military / Para can do better

Just found out that the Navy K631 is off the market.....no longer available due to Spyderco's injunction against them.

Shouldn't be that surprising. The 763 has thinner blade stock than any of the other knives you mentioned.

Vortex,

Any good word on EL08 and latest Navy K611?

In between EL02 and K611.. Same price, both quite gentlemanly. What do you think?

My first EL08 was quite impressive, although the pivot is tight.

I ordered a second along with the pivot tool (there was a discount to order both.)

The second was defective out of the box, with a dangerously LOOSE lockbar. As for the tool, it just turned and turned. I couldn't get it to do anything.

Exduct told me to pay for return shipping so they could inspect the EL08. I declined to spend more money on an item that's not usable.

As you wish. ;)

As others said it before the EL08 is an excellent folder with very good ergonomics. I like its blade shape too which performs well during every day cutting tasks. It's a bit overweight but it carries well in the pocket.

I think the EL02 is a bit overbuilt for a gentleman's folder although it looks quite pretty. The new Navy K611 is smaller and slimmer than the EL02 and with its polished G10 scales, copper liners and rivets looks more exquisite too.

Anyone have a solution for the following problem please help me: Just got a SRM 704 recently. Disassembled the whole thing (though the hex screw gave me a hell of a problem, like most other people with most SRM i guess). After reassembly, I really could not get the smooth-as-butter blade deployment back even after countless tries of adjusting the pivot screw and the six others on the handle . I even adjusted screws for the clip to see if they affected blade deployment.

Have you considered lube (i.e. 3-in-1 oil or a light mineral oil)? Generally, I've found cleaning and then dunking the pieces in a small tube/flask of rubbing alcohol and then using either a lube or a rust-resistant grease (go light!) works wonders for smoothing out the blade movement.

Also, check your washers, if you've damaged them, they will bind the blade...

thanx man, got it with the lube.

Here you are:

A picture paints a thousand words indeed. EL02 looks like a monster in comparison despite only 8mm longer in blade length. Many thanks, and as usual, you take very nice picture!!

I try to stay away from Navy but this one is too nice & fit my need for office use. Some people are freaked out with EL02 and sometimes even with SRM763 .

Will get one, with EL08 (more monster :D). Hope they come ok, not lemons.
