Stag Saturday - Let's See Some Traditional Stag!

As usual, there's plenty of breathtaking, satisfying stag examples here today!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: But my "Pick of the Day" so far is Christian's knife, and I chose it more for the blades than for the stag. It has some nice "old school Euro stag", but the edges on those beautifully-patinaed blades are the stuff dreams are made of!! ;):cool::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks GT. The blades are sharp too. ;)

This Fox n Hound (Italy) small lockback 3 3/8" has lurked at the back of a cupboard, neglected for years... The Stag doesn't match but both sides are decent, thick slabs which is good on a small knife. Tight lockup, no play anywhere, all stainless liners no brass:cool: When I got it the Stag was white but a tea-bath fixed it to my liking, I think I need to carry this one more. I don't know much about this company except that it is making knives in Italy and China and might have a connexion with SMKW. This one has a very European feel to it and has no construction issues.

Hurrah for Saturdays:)

Thanks, Will

When I saw the pictures I thought it looked like it had spent many years in a pocket, the color has that well-carried look. Then I read the text...tea treatment. It worked. Nice looking knife.

Nice knife! Who made it? Do you have pictures with the blades open?

Little taste of the upcoming 56 pattern:

Evidence that GEC can cut stag properly when they want to...bark all the way to the bolsters.

Thanks, Jim, I thought it looked like an Eye brand, but couldn't read the tang.

Kamagong's knife is definitely Carl Schlieper. Model 425 DS.

Lambertiana, your Puma looks like the same knife as my '90s vintage Solingen made Klaas Kissing Cranes stockman. They have a more subtle serpentine and low lying blades, compared to other Solingen stockmen. Do you know which factory these were made in? They don't look like Olbertz work to me.

I believe Klaas made their own. If I can be forgiven for non-stag images in this thread, I have a horn-handled version of that same stockman, I got it in the early 90s.

That's a beauty !! How does that older Northwoods compare to the newer Hawthorn Jack, size wise?

The Knives Ship Free site says that the Hawthorne Jack is 3-7/8" closed and my notes say (ok, I'm a little OCD) that my Slim Jack is 4" closed. I will have to dig it out and verify later, but looks like they are within an 1/8" closed.

It's a matter of form vs. function Rick. We may say we like evenly thick covers, etc. etc. but the thick rounded ones you show work really well in hand as you note.

This is a new lesson for me. I never would have bought this knife if I had shopped online for it and only seen pictures. In that case I would have moved on without even considering it. Having bought it at a knife show and being able to handle it first was a real eye opener.
