Stone Cold Shame

I fully agree as well. It seems like they could sell a lot more of these knives if they offered a non coated blade option and if it did not say "BROKEN SKULL" on the blade. This knife is their lone star hunter done in G-10, I doubt "stone cold" had anything to do with the design. They should put more into promoting the genius of Demko instead of some washed up fake wrestler.

As far as I can tell Austin has a craft beer called Broken Skull, and he is friendly with the CS guys. He liked the Lone Star and wanted a knife collab based on it. Not worth spending much thought on it.

I don't mind the knife, and I like Steve Austin and professional wrestling, but I don't like Cold Steel. It's funny how folks who seem to have never watched wrestling are saying that wrestling fans are the mall ninja/meat slashing types. Have you watched a TV show like The Walking Dead, Gotham, Turn, Vikings, etc? Must be a mall ninja type. Because if you have watched them, you've essentially done what anyone else does when they watch wrestling. It's a show with characters, they talk and fight, there's a story, and if you ask just about anyone who watches it or has been to a live show, they're probably going to tell you it's good entertainment.

Honestly, I think this is actually a great knife for us knuts, name or no name. It sure as heck looks like a nice, practical blade with a ton of features that should come together to make it a really great carry knife. I don't like the name or the silliness but, while I'll reserve judgement until I have one in hand, I honestly don't know if there's a stronger offering on the market given size, weight and price. CS may as well pick a silly name to market it to other because I predict an awful damn lot of us will make some room for a Broken Skull in our collection.

Heck, a Cold Steel take on the Endura concept that's bigger, lighter, packs a stronger lock, better steel, a more premium handle material and at a pretty comparable price? I think you really have to chalk that up as a win for CS no matter how much you might dislike the name, the owner or the company. On paper at minimum, this is a damned impressive offering.

9.25 inch long overall folder @ 3.1 ounces is a big win in itself IMHO.:cool:

They really don't look that bad (to me) and could be easily customized to fit the end user's needs too.

I think that if the biggest bellyache any of us have over this knife is the writing on the blade and some gripes about who is making it then we probably have a real winner on our hands. Good design, good materials, good build quality, ridiculously good price. I probably won't pick one up, but I do now have an easy recommendation that is affordable for people I know who are looking to step out of the lower end of pocket knives.

Cold Steel once again striking that odd balance of "tacticool" and "amazing value". It has a motif that is lame as crap - but that's 4" of CTS-XHP with a Tri-Ad lock for under $60 retail!

I have to ask, was $60 a typo or have you seen them for that? I've seen it for about $80, but if you know somewhere they're going for $60 can you PM me?

Well, the Broken Skull knife is a limited edition, so *maybe* after the limited run, they could release a version without the Broken Skull logo on it, and also one with a satin/stone-washed finish(?).

Also, I like what Austin said about the importance of carrying a pocketknife. He gave good, legitimate reasons for doing so, not 'mall ninja' reasons.

Yeah, and given that he was working with Cold Steel this knife could very easily have been a tacticool zombie slaying thing (I like CS, but let's face it, that kind of stuff is definitely in their lineup). Instead they came out with what is probably the most practical and sedate large folder in their lineup. And it honestly sounds like he was the one pushing for brightly colored handles and low weight. Bottom line, the choices on this knife made me respect Austin quite a bit. I just still think Broken Skull sounds doofy.

Side Note: Yes, I also think it sounds doofy when it's the name of a ranch, IPA and reality show. But Steve Austin gonna Steve Austin and that's all fine.

Agreed about the name. I personally wouldn't want to name a ranch "Broken Skull" or "Broken Arm" or anything like that. But for me, it's because I'm a little superstitious about things like that. Like I would never tell an actor going onstage to "break a leg."

My all time favorite ranch name was a place owned by a retired dentist. It was called Tooth Acres. :D

PM'd. BladeHQ currently has an "our price" of $45, but it is not in stock.

I noticed that earlier browsing the site. If it stays that price then it will definitely be one I own multiples of. I love the CTS-XHP and with the blade profile it may end up my go to hunting/fishing folder.

Don't be fooled. Steve actually carries a sebenza ;)

Haha wow I didn't realize stone cold was a knife guy.

It makes sense now why his broken skull design is so good.

I never meant to give the impression that the entire fanbase of wrestling is "mall ninja" types, but let's be honest, thousands and thousands of fans showing up to every venue, there are a lot of "mall ninja" types within their fanbase, and yes, there are a lot also in the Walking Dead, Gotham, Vikings, fan bases as well. Fact is there are a lot more mall ninja types out there (and trendy hipsters, and regular ol' uninformed folk who still think "surgical steel" means it must be good), then there are actual knife aficionados, same as there are many more regular commercial light beer drinkers, (coors, Miller, bud), then are true connoisseurs of fine micro brews, and it was intelligent for cold Steel to aim marketing towards the wrestling crowd, more so then the knife crowd, because the knife crowd already knows all about Cold Steel, love or hate, but the wrestling crowd, many who don't know the differences in blade steels or TriAd locks (which in themselves are the appeal to the knife crowd), very well may buy that cool lopking blade with Steve Austin's name attached, rather then some other cool looking blade without such an endorsement... Not much different then wannabe outdoorsie types going gaga over "Bear Grylls" name on Gerber survival stuff, meaning it must be good at survival type stuffs, only except wrestling has a much larger (international) fan base then "Man vs. Wild" ever had... Like I said, genius marketing on Cold Steel's part... They make a lightweight TriAd lock cts-xhp knife (which appeals to and sells itself amongst the knife crowd much as it ever could), at an affordable price range for most avg. Joe's, and market it to a massive non knife related fanbase through a very well known and long respected pro wrestler...

The knife knuts who are going to be interested, (like me), are going to be interested regardless... And the Cold Steel fans are going to still be Cold Steel fans, so no point trying to sell them on a knife they already like.

But many non knife knuts, (mall ninja or not), who may not know a thing about Steel, or Cold Steel, or Lynn Thompson, etc, but happen to be pro wrestling fans, may very well spend that extra $ on a Stone Cold Steve Austin knife, instead of that mTech or United Cut. Knife theyve been eyeballing, just because of the name...
*(and good for them, as it might be the best knife they'll own, or better yet, might open a few folks eyes to what a good blade is, which in turn might lead them into researching, learning, and acquiring the knutism disease).

My biggest gripe is the lack of liners, which I know reduces weight and cost but, also reduces overall durability... That said I still like it... It seems to remind me to be an upgraded clip point xhp Buck Bantam, and I like my Bantam for a $20 knife; upgraded to g10 and xhp, I'm definitely going to like the broken skull I think.

I'll take no liners everytime

I wish more knives would do this.

I can't think of any cutting.task that requires full liners on a folder

Imma buy this knife. Its a winner
I loved
Stone Cold
Growing up in the 1990s

This should be awesome
