Strider Knives?

What duty? Army jobs vary. Most soldiers even in combat zones would find a multitool much more useful than any fixed blade, and some soldiers might not be allowed to carry anything too obvious anyway. That's part of the attraction of heavy-duty folders.

I would think whichever one was the best survival tool. When I was in the military I was just a mechanic. Something I could cut rubber hoses with, chop wood, use as a hammer, and various other things plus something I could use to stab and defend myself with is what I would want. It would also have to have a handle that I could hold onto if my hands were grimy or oily, muddy ect and be able to clean up well so any thing with a paracord handle would be out the window and anything that would delaminate with moisture would be out. I would think something that was JUST designed to be a fighter would be dead weight to most people. I not onlky had to carry my regular gear but fairly over packed heavy tool box as well and anything extra had to be useful not just cool looking. Somesort of fixed blade that would have fit my bill would have been great though.

Does someone have any suggestions about what model of Strider would a young man just now being sent over to Iraq value?

Not a leatherman, but a real knife thats going to be there for him, and come home with him, and when he looks at it in the future it will remind him of this part of his life..

Something he can tell a few stories about and perhaps even pass on to his son one day????

I wandered on to ColdSteel's Web site today for reasons unrelated to this thread. Yet, what do i see splashed all over ColdSteel's home page? A series of claims and documentation indicating that Strider has grossly misrepresented his background and military service.

I'm not even a ColdSteel fan; but, I doubt ColdSteel would prominently display the information on Strider that they do if they were not prepared to back it up in court if necessary.

Here is a link to ColdSteel's site; you can't miss the Strider info:

As a frame of reference, they just filled an order of several hundred SnGs for the USMC .... so I guess they (the USMC) think it's a good bet for for their guys deploying. BTW the SnG is a folder. The friends I have in the sandbox seem to like the DB or DB-L for a fixed blade. It's tough but compact.

I know you asked about "Army", but thought you might find the above info helpful.

Take care,

Well this thread has obviously left the arena of it being about the knives. Personaly, I could care less who and what Mick Strider did or where he was or blah blah blah. It doesn't matter to me, it might to some and thats fine. Buy his knives, don't buy his knives. You might not like him but his knives are not overpriced - to me, might be to you or to someone else. Whats worth it to me might not be worth it to someone else.

I like Busse as well but for that kind of money I'd like a frigginn sheath. Doesn't mean I won't buy them, I have one and I also have bought and sold Striders before. There great knives with a great warranty. I don't know Mick Personally as I've only met him and Dwayne and Josh once. 5 minutes is to short to know someone but they were cordial and nice. But that doesn't matter, I have to like his knives not him.

I've been EDC'ing an SNG since the 2nd generation came out. I sent it in for a resharpening and Josh got back to me about a week later and said they didn't like the lockup on my knife so they were sending me a new one. I got it four days later...Mint Gen6 with the Hinderer bar. Thats not even why i sent it in. The lockup felt fine to me. Great customer service. great knife which suits my needs.

This argument is the single most subjective thing about knives and knife buying. What I'm willing to spend and what someone else is willing to spend are entirely different.

Hello Mr. Molstad,

The handle colors are as follows (in that picture)

Top to bottom:

Ranger Green
Coyote Brown
Black

I know that the ones that the USMC just ordered they ordered in the coyote brown because it blends best with the desert BDUs.

You can absolutely get someones name on it. Please feel free to email me (at the address attached to my forum name here) or Josh@Striderknives.com, for what you need. We will make sure that whatever you request, you will receive. ALL orders for military folk take top priority.

All the best,

m1

wow breaking news, eh??

have you even been following all this??

Don't say JUST a mechanic! :) You were a mechanic in one of the 5 branches of the armed services. What would they do without mechanics, admin people, health services, cooks, communications, supply, electronics?

No. I'm normally not interested in drama threads and I'm neither a Strider nor a ColdSteel fan or owner. I had heard or read some rumblings about Mick Strider misrepresenting his background; but, I paid little attention to this in the past.

I went to ColdSteel's Web site yesterday for reasons totally unrelated to any of this. I see the very prominent graphic regarding Strider and then read it. I was shocked. Not so much by the content as I was that a knife company would post information like this on their Web site's home page. Having seen ColdSteel's More Proof video over a year ago, I already had a rather low regard for ColdSteel based on this video. But, what they posted on their Web site about Strider was way beyond over-the-top in my view. Now, just because I don't care for ColdSteel, that's no reason to assume the information about Strider was false. In fact, I tend to think it's largely true as I can't believe ColdSteel is dumb enough to post false info in this manner. Further, I'm shocked that Strider Knives has allowed this info to remain posted since March 23rd without apparently taking both rapid and effective legal action to have it removed, assuming it's actually defamatory.

As to the allegation that Mick Strider misrepresented his military service, this, if true, really gets me angry. I'm retired Army and I suspect I'm like most vets when I say that misrepresenting one's military service is simply not tolerated -- no excuses accepted.

So, from my perspective, I have two interests here. (1) How companies or businesses act or react in the market place. I've always been a student in this arena and this one is a potential classic. (2) As a retired vet, I don't tolerate people who misrepresent their military service.

Hmmmm...
Just checking my posts so that I have not left myself open to legal action from Badlands Moderators

So that I dont spin off the topic in a different direction, Mr Charlie Moore could i send you an email of some of my own comments and questions about the same interests you talk about above?

649CLSS Air Force Had lots of fun and got to travel a lot. When it comes to aircraft it takes a College Education to be able to break them but a highschool education to fix them. LOL

No we were just smart, unlike the other services the Air Force sends its officers to die, while the enlisted support them. Now before people start bitching I know that is a very simplistic look at things and isn't totally accurate.
