Not sure if OP is still listening but here's my two cents:
All opinions of knives are highly subjective, but as evidenced by this thread, this is doubly true for Strider knives.
The only actual objective issue with the knives themselves is a lock-up problem that seems to have been fixed recently, if you buy a new Strider you should be fine.
Bottom line is, Striders resale on the forums here quickly at a high percentage of what dealers charge. So you should be able to buy one and sell it if you don't like it without losing much $$$. I consider paying $20 to "test-drive" a $400 item to be worth it.
Full disclosure: I would never buy a Strider, but only because the styling does nothing for me, I'm a huge CRK fan. I figure I have no choice but to give my business to people who are pure evil on a regular basis (ahem, Sallie Mae) so what's another drop in the pond?
