Strider SmF CC Black Oxide 3/4 Grind in CPM 3V

Hmm then perhaps most of the complaints are simply from unreasonable people. The infamous "tough customers" who can't be satisfied?

NO ONE complained of the issues you brought up.
No one.
They complained about scratches or off center blades, not huge burrs all over the place.
Huge difference.:)

Seems like a petty reason to send knives back to Strider for. Or at least, that was what I remembered people who had those complaints were trying to do, which then led to rumors of an unreachable customer service.

Not sure how the scratches whould make it past Striders door, never seen one that was new with scratches on it.

The easiest way to contact them is through the Green Forum right now until their Website is back up.

Frankly, I think most of the complaints are pure internet fiction. That's an opinion, and others are welcome to disagree.

No, I did not know that. Though it would have been fine if he had merely said that he had personal troubles and that my requests were an inconvenience to him, and I would have understood as he is one person rather than like knifecenter who are a large company with many people to handle my requests.

Frankly, I've only sent a knife back even for warranty only when the problem impairs the function of the knife(0551 liner rust, 0301 lock that disengages with a light spine tap, stripped screws that are stuck in the handle).

I agree as nobody is perfect I also believe that most are either fiction or parroted stories about the same few knives.

When we get into knives in this price range there is a lot of jealousy and animosity towards them in general because not everyone can afford them.

Yes, and that seems to be especially true of Strider knives and the two owners. :(

Well the knives are expensive, most really don't get used because they are collected mostly even though they are ment to be users.

On the owner stuff, lets not even start that or bring that up again, not worth the issues and ESAV will flip out.

I believe the early complaints about scratches and off center blades...even Spyderco's come with off center blades from time to time.:)
But even those issues have now been addressed, as Strider has been making essentially the same knives for quite soem time now. It seems they got things worked out.

Strider is one of those Companies who are always improving and that's a good thing all around.

Now that they seem to be bringing more different steels out that just adds another positive.

Ankerson,
do you have an idea of what hardness Striders CPM 3V comes in?
I have a DB in CPM 3V on order and am curious now if they strive for the lower end around HRC 58 for toughness, or a bit higher, since you mentioned the good edgeholding compaired to Striders S30V.

Couldn't say and I don't plan on getting it tested either because the coating has to be removed in the area tested.

Whatever it is it's good. :)

Thanks for the input mate,
I just hope it's not tuned to much in direction of maximum edgeholding, especially for the DB which comes in thinner stock compared to the S30V version, which is very welcomed for lighter edc carry.
Well, I have to say somehow strangely I'm more excited awaitening the arrival of this knife than I was for most of the other knives recently acquired. Will be my first Strider, even ordered a "DeathCard" Zippo with it, go figure... :D

Interesting (at least a little). I wouldn't have guessed the oxide coating would affect the test!

I wouldn't worry too much, Strider isn't stupid. :)

Yeah any coating on the blade can effect the results of the test.

Actually despite Strider's knives having been around for a while, I'm still not sure how hard they run their S30V. I've heard they use a Bos recipe HT, and I did see the picture of someone stabbing a computer monitor with one without massive chipping. Though that begs the question of whether CPM-3V brings any benefits to the mix given how tough the thing already is. Seems like overkill unless you plan to pry open a tank on a regular basis. I'm hoping they've run the steel harder in order to capitalize on the additional toughness, which in theory should improve edge retention over S30V.

Anyways, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a CPM-M4 blade version with DLC coating:thumbup:.

59.5/60 RC as per the Strider FAQ on Blue Line Gear.

They could run 3V at 62 HRC and it would still be one heck of a lot tougher than S30V and S30V is pretty tough.

There isn't such a thing as overkill when you are talking about knives that are designed to do what these knives are.

M4 really isn't that tough when run at high hardness for edge retention, the hardness would have to be lowered a lot, down in the 55 HRC range or so and it still wouldn't be as tough as 3V is.

Is Strider switching to 3V in general or are these limited?
I just snagged a SMF DGG in 3V off the exchange thanks to your video.
Thanks Ankerson!

I also contacted Mr. Demko and had him switch my AD10 to ELMAX. :D:D

i don't think anyone but the shop guys know for sure, but i would not expect 3v to become a regular production steel.

they also released non customs in s110v.
