Strider SmF CC Black Oxide 3/4 Grind in CPM 3V

Not sure why that (bold red below) would be true. I doubt anyone gets preferential treatment by Strider.
Hmm, perhaps. Anyways, TNK cancelled my purchase because they had "a bad feeling" about the transaction in general. Seemed to happen after I asked about the fit and finish, though I suppose it would've been better to ask prior to payment, I guess I just wanted it too badly to ask when someone else could've snatched it up:D.

I guess my standards are unreasonably high to expect a near $600 knife to have a $600 fit and finish:rolleyes:.

Interesting.....

The one I just got was the best I have even seen, couldn't find anything wrong with it and I looked.

Won't matter much anyway in the end because it will get a ton of use.

I thought that I could live fairly easily without a Strider. Thanks Jim. Great pictures and description. In my opinion, this is one of the nicest looking ones yet. Maybe if I just pretend I did not see this thread and walk away I'll be OK. Jim has cost me some serious dollars also - not to mention my expanding wish list. But I would not have it any other way. Keep it up. Mike

I suppose so. Though it makes me wonder if that $575 could buy me an equivalent knife with a thick titanium framelock, stonewashed, with an equally impressive steel. I'd get an AD-10 if Andrew wasn't full up for the year. Seems like every other mid tech in the $500-$600 range is all titanium with CPM154.

I think you could, but it would be a long wait and you would have to find someone to work with one of those steels.

I'd say this $600 knife definitely has $600 F&F.

There are very, very, very few cutlers out there, production or custom, offering S110V blades.

Yeah, but it does slice well, CPM 3V is more agressive than INFI.

Photo after sharpening and cutting cardboard.

I find that photo interesting in how the bevel widened near the tip. I remember a big discussion a while back (don't remember who specifically) regarding edge bevel widening when using the Wicked Edge sharpening system, and how it was inferior to the EP system for that reason... that the edge bevel would change as you got to the tip on the WE, but not on the EP. There was a photo of an EP sharpened 710 that I felt showed it widening too, but not to this extent. I guess this proves that both systems do this depending on how thick the primary grind is near the tip. Nice knife BTW.

When the blade gets thicker towards the tip the bevel will widen because there is just more metal to remove when keeping the same angle.

There is no way around that unless you increase the angle towards the tip like they do when they sharpen them at the factory.

I believe that was my thought during that discussion too. I just seem to remember someone indicating that he sharpened knives professionally, and couldn't justify the Wicked Edge because he didn't feel an increased bevel width looked professional, or something to that nature. Don't remember exactly.

Mine too. ;)

If the thickness stays the same or very close or there is a distal taper the bevel will be very even along the whole edge.

Taking into consideration this was a 4" blade that was sitting right in the middle of the table when I was sharpening it the angle is the same along the whole cutting edge now.

A big +1 on this. My TNK SMF is perfect, too. :D

"Perfect." It's such an unqualified word... Yeah, I'll say perfect. Whoever put this SMF of mine together was a wizard or an elf or had some stardust in his pockets. In particular, the pivot was adjusted to some spec measured in microns. Zero blade play in any condition, yet swings freely, and a piece of S110V of that size and weight swinging just perfectly is quite a thing to behold.

now if only i could get one in 110 with a FFG

No problem, just order a custom. And wait...you can save up while you're waiting... ;) Unless M&D used up all their S110V stock running off these and the SnGs, which is possible (???). S110V is a b!tch to work with. There was a statement on one of the dealer websites saying the SMFs and SnGs were made with S110V from Duane's "private stash." They may have said "good riddance, get this stuff out of the shop."
