Strider SmF CC Black Oxide 3/4 Grind in CPM 3V

I suppose so. Though it makes me wonder if that $575 could buy me an equivalent knife with a thick titanium framelock, stonewashed, with an equally impressive steel. I'd get an AD-10 if Andrew wasn't full up for the year. Seems like every other mid tech in the $500-$600 range is all titanium with CPM154.

all ti is not necessarily better. but i understand what you are saying, and that is one of the "complaints" of the strider folders. if there was an all ti version at the same price, i would almost certainly buy one.

but with the integral backspacer, that is just not going to happen. ive seen aftermarket cf and aluminum scales, and none have an integral spacer.

g10 is lighter and less flexible.

Anyways, I'm not precisely after all-titanium unless it's hard coated against scuffing like the Tim Galyean Pro Turbulence exclusive from KnifeArt, or unless it's stonewashed to hide wear. Mostly because whatever else I have in my pockets will scuff the front scales.

Still, it keeps bugging me that TNK canceled the sale. Is it really too much for me to ask to check for blade centering and side to side play along with leftover machine marks? Particularly when those same complaints are the ones floating around about Strider knives? I ask any dealers I purchase Benchmades from to check for the same things for the same reasons. I also did request USPS shipping(which their site says they do, even if strongly discouraged) due to my past experience which says that both UPS and FedEx never delivered me a package.:grumpy:

Dude leftover machining marks??? Really? I can understand checking for centering and play but this is a strider not a wh. I think you're looking at the wrong knife for you.

"Perfect." It's such an unqualified word... Yeah, I'll say perfect. Whoever put this SMF of mine together was a wizard or an elf or had some stardust in his pockets. In particular, the pivot was adjusted to some spec measured in microns. Zero blade play in any condition, yet swings freely, and a piece of S110V of that size and weight swinging just perfectly is quite a thing to behold.

uhh, did you notice the price? nowhere near the same price as a standard version, which is what i had said in my post.

i have no idea what transpired between you and tnk, but i agree it sounds as if these are not the knives for you.

No problem, just order a custom. And wait...you can save up while you're waiting... ;) Unless M&D used up all their S110V stock running off these and the SnGs, which is possible (???). S110V is a b!tch to work with. There was a statement on one of the dealer websites saying the SMFs and SnGs were made with S110V from Duane's "private stash." They may have said "good riddance, get this stuff out of the shop."

When you say 110v is hard to work with, do you mean sharpening?

Pretty sure he was referring to grinding, etc. the blades during the manufacturing process. As for sharpening, the difficulty is about what you'd expect from a highly wear resistant steel, but nothing too tough. I used my Edge Pro to put a mirror edge on my newly arrived S110V SNG last night, and the Edge Pro handled it superbly.

I was going to reply to Noctis3880, but Neuron has it all laid out here. My belief, based on being on the TNK site early after the "Tri-Hybrid" S110V knives were posted, is that there were no more than ~30 of those knives made in that configuration. I also picked up one of the SnG S110V knives. Those together set me back a tidy bit of cash and I haven't felt flush enough to pull the trigger on a 3V SMF yet.

Well, I'm referring to things that stick out like a sore thumb, like a long gash across the titanium or a loose piece of metal hanging on for dear life around the pivot. Despite what I've said I'm more than satisfied with the fit and finish on my ZT 0301 even despite the off center blade. Just wanted to know if it was bad enough to rub against the handles when opening or closing.

Seriously? You really thought there was a chance that the knife would come with something like that?

I doubt you will ever see a Strider come like that.

Have you considered getting a user regular production Strider and having a custom knifemaker do a re-blade, new scale, and tune-up?

I am guessing you were not aware of this, but when you talked to Neal he was both moving from CA to the US and dealing with a very dire close family medical emergency.

 It wouldn't have left Strider that way.

No, I did not know that. Though it would have been fine if he had merely said that he had personal troubles and that my requests were an inconvenience to him, and I would have understood as he is one person rather than like knifecenter who are a large company with many people to handle my requests.

Hmm then perhaps most of the complaints are simply from unreasonable people. The infamous "tough customers" who can't be satisfied?

Frankly, I've only sent a knife back even for warranty only when the problem impairs the function of the knife(0551 liner rust, 0301 lock that disengages with a light spine tap, stripped screws that are stuck in the handle).

on neil knows if that was the reason he declined your business.

whatever people's complaints are regarding fit/finish, what i have seen are a far cry from
a long gash across the titanium or a loose piece of metal hanging on for dear life around the pivot.
